LaRaza responds to new AZ law
from info@wecanstopthehate.org
Tell Arizona Governor Jan Brewer to veto a bill that would lead to racial profiling and discrimination!
Dear xxxx:
Have you heard about the madness in Arizona?
Local lawmakers in this state, several of whose officials have been walking a tightrope of civil rights violations lately, have approved one of the most troubling measures this country has seen in some time. The bill makes it a crime to be an undocumented immigrant in Arizona and requires law enforcement officers who have a "reasonable suspicion" that someone is in the state illegally to determine that person's immigration status.
Yes, that's right. They can randomly subject someone to an immigration status check, even without that person having possibly violated any laws. The measure also allows citizens to sue a city, town, or county if they believe a law enforcement agency is failing to enforce this law.
So what does all this mean? Pretty much that if you "look" undocumented in Arizona, you are subject to arrest and may be stopped for no other legal reason.
The National Council of La Raza (NCLR), the largest national Latino civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States, just released a statement condemning the anti-immigrant bill in which NCLR President and CEO Janet MurguÃ*a commented, "This bill is an affront to civil rights and it will make all Latinos suspect in their own communities, regardless of their immigration status."
Now we need your help telling Arizona Governor Jan Brewer to veto this bill that would lead to racial profiling and discrimination.
Tell Governor Brewer that this bill is not about public safety or solutions to our broken immigration system; this is about playing for cheap political points without regard to consequences for communities and taxpayers.
Join us by signing on to this petition urging Governor Brewer to veto the bill this Friday!
Sincerely,
Lisa Navarrete
Vice President

"...even without that person having possibly violated any laws."
Their own statments are so stupid they don't make any sense...
What I think:
Profiling is simply police work... When a call comes in for a suspected bank robber...who is male 6' black hair brown eyes and 200 lbs... Who do you think they will look for?
When radical Islamic Muslim terrorists are "Islamic" males under 40 years old...who do you suppose they should be looking at in airports?
I live in Arizona and I can guarentee that not one Mexican will be stoped just to check his immigration status... at least for a while. This practice would overwhelme our jails and justice system in one day!!! The only thing that will happen if the bill is passed is that during an investigation or traffic stop...if an illegal is found to be "illegal" than the officer will now have a choice to arrest or let the person go if that is the only offence. Right now only the Sheriffs dept. can do that because State law prohibits an arrest for only being an illegal (I know...sounds stupid and it is...).
This is one of the revisions that sent bill SB1070 back to the state senant. They are allowing discression to arrest or let the person go...where as it was written, if they were illegal they were to be arrested no matter what. This law will however help police with this "PC illegal imunity above the law arogance" that the Mexicans have flaunted for so many years and make them the "legal lagitimised law brakers" that they are. The "illegal rights" groups will be put on notice...THEY ARE ILLEGAL AND HAVE NO RIGHTS!
Personaly I see this as...well he robbed the bank...but we thought he was an ok guy so we let him go...
But...to be truthfull...I think latitude in law was a good thing. Cops use to be able to give you a warning for some things...I have had a bunch of them and was thankful I was not hauled in. Judges had a curve from a hand slap to fine and jail at their discretion and were not mandated by Federal law to give out mandated sentences...I don't like that.
Arizona has a population of 4.5 million. Half are hispanic...claims are 30 to 50% are illegal. When you do the math it is easy to see that we have a real problem dealing with this "gone way to far out of control PC law ignoring situation." I think at first it may be OK to give out a "fix it" ticket to an illegal on certian condtions. At least that would get them into the system and would be better than simply letting them go. (No I‘m not going Lou Dobbs!).
But here is what Pearce thinks about it all...(starts at about .30 min in)

La Raza would do so much more for Latinos if they focused their efforts on combatting crime, drugs and gangs in their precious community. And educate these followers to speak Engilsh in public in America. We are not a Spanish country.
Talk about an image problem!

You mean La Raza Cosmica (the Cosmic Race) objects to the law because it will stop their racist takeover of the USA.

I'm glad our legislature grew some spine and are working on passing this. I am glad to see also that it still will give our boots-on-the-ground officers some latitude in how they may approach it. About time we got serious abou this.

It would save a lot of ink and computer space if news outlets just reported that La Raza's response was "yada, yada, yada." We have all read the same stupidityt over and over again.
