Could this finally be the tip of the iceberg in removing the deeply rooted progressive Harry Reid from office? Or will this simply turn into another non-event that the attorney general's office will sweep under the rug?

In a repeat of the same crime that sent Jesse Jackson Jr to prison, Harry Reid’s campaign used $17,000 of campaign funds as a gift to his granddaughter, and covered it up in a mandatory disclosure document by omitting her last name (Reid). Source



Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) reacted swiftly to revelations that his campaign had purchased $16,786 worth of “holiday gifts” (for donors) from his own granddaughter, announcing that he would personally reimburse his campaign for the cost of the trinkets.
Well, Reid looks awfully silly now that previous campaign documents have turned up almost $31,000 in payments to Ryan Elizabeth Reid for “gifts for supporters.” But whatever.
Reid, naturally, thinks everyone should shut up about the whole thing. “This has gone too far and it needs to stop now. I deeply regret any role I had in creating this situation but now, as a grandparent, I say enough is enough,” he said in a statement Wednesday. “I believe my granddaughter is a very talented individual and I admire her work tremendously, but I’ve decided that it would be best to pay for her work out of my own pocket.”
The Federal Election Commission is looking into the matter. Shockingly, this isn’t Reid’s first run-in with the FEC.
Meanwhile, Reid’s campaign to demonize the Koch brothers—for allegedly gaming the campaign finance system to enrich themselves and those around them—proceeds apace. What a guy. Source

Harry Reid: 'Enough is enough' about my granddaughter

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., is lashing out at the treatment of his granddaughter.
The Senate’s top Democrat is repaying his campaign for gifts purchased from Ryan Elisabeth Reid’s jewelry company that were given to supporters as holiday gifts.
In a statement first sent to Nevada reporters on Wednesday, Reid says his granddaughter “has been the target of harassing phone calls, strangers tracking her down and knocking on her door, and negative, unwanted attention on the Internet” since news of the payments from Reid’s campaign widely broke earlier this week.
“This has gone too far and it needs to stop now,” Reid said. “I deeply regret any role I had in creating this situation but now, as a grandparent, I say enough is enough.”
The Las Vegas Review Journal reports more than $31,000 has been paid by Reid’s campaign to his granddaughter’s company — which represents about $17,000 that had been questioned by the Federal Election Commission and another $14,000 “flagged” by Republican Party operatives.
The senator says he and his campaign have complied with campaign finance law and FEC rules but “decided that it would be best to pay for her work out of my own pocket.” His office is reviewing records to make sure the full amount is repaid, the statement said.
Ryan Elisabeth Reid, 23, is the daughter of the senator’s son, Rory. Rory Reid, a former chairman of the Clark County Commission, was the 2010 Democratic nominee for Nevada governor.
Republicans have chastised Reid for using campaign money as a “personal slush fund.” Here’s a sample of the treatment Reid has been getting on Twitter from Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus.
