    About the California Border Police..

On saturday or something like that, someone on the radio keeps telling me me the California Border police is a bad idea because putting it this way:

    * Federals only have the authority to deport people.

    * Jails are full all the way to the top. Even when you build more jails, it will still be full.

    * Worst thing that would happen is, if it's a non-mexican immigrant, then he gets a ticket and has to return to the court for 90 days. Or if it's a mexican, then he goes to some institute to get housed and tax payers has to pay for that.

He also noted that the only thing that will solve the illigal immigration problem is, federals, pressure, federals, pressure.

    And so on.

    I forgot his name.

Then put them in tent cities waiting for deportation hearings. Feed them MRE's. They're no better than our troops in Iraq.

Not necessarily. OTM's can go right to the tent cities.

This is the problem. Our local enforcement agencies should be given the power to enforce our immigration laws. Their's is not to deport, but to detain. Its the federal government who deports them, but they don't want to obey the laws

Why not take one of the military bases they are so gingerly closing down and make it a quanset hut detention center? We should all watch very closely just how the government disposes of this land, to whom and for how much. Many of these bases are located on some prime and expensve land, like Miramar Naval Air Station in California!

    Rockfish,
The IRAIRA of 1996 has authorized states to use military force and the deportation of illegals. The problem is that the state hasn’t utilized the power authorized to them by congress.

    1) CaliBorderPolice has nothing to do with 'deporting' people as far as I have ever heard. So that argument was a red herring.

    2) Ray Haynes was a speaker at the recent Carlsbad Town Hall Meeting. The entire unofficial transcript is here:

the relevent portion of Ray Hayne's speech:

    More sense than I thought.
Our next speaker is a very good friend of mine, a very wonderful conservative representative. He’s an Assemblyman representing western Riverside and part of northern San Diego County. He’s been in the legislature since 1992, he spent 8 years in the state Senate, where he served as a Senate Republican whip. He has a law degree from the University of Southern California. He’s one of the top supporters among the legislature for traditional family values, strong law enforcement, limited government, lower taxes and cutting waste and fraud in government. And in addition to that, he’s been a long-time opponent of illegal immigration. He’s one of the earliest supporters, as was Bill Morrow, of Proposition 187 back in the early 1990’s. He is, and he’s going to tell you about it, he is the author of the California Border Police Initiative . Assemblyman Ray Haynes.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I wanted to tell you something. This is a forum in a public building, put on by a state legislator, so I can’t talk to you about initiative petitions. But I can talk to you about ACA 20, which is the California Border Police Amendament. I have some folks handing out pieces of paper, on ACA 20, the text of ACA 20 is on the back of the piece of paper and don’t look at the other side, that’s the side I can’t talk about. But the text of ACA 20 is on the back of the piece of paper that’s getting handed out and look and see what ACA 20 does. ACA 20, quite simply stated, sets up a state agency whose sole function is a uniform statewide comprehensice enforcement of federal immigration law.

Somebody asked well, “Why are we doing this?â€? Well, I’ll be real blunt, I’m a state legislator, I’ve been watching Tom Tancredo over the years fight this battle and constantly get kicked around in Washington and would show up in forums just like thisâ€â€

    Defens,

I like your approach but instead of the bases that they are going to close why not use the bases that are already closed and just sitting and doing nothing. There is massive living courtier to house many of these people and also place these illegals in these areas I don’t see as a problem and it would create jobs in areas that got hit hard by those base closes. Great idea but it makes to much sense, Ive even suggested uses these closed bases to remove sex offenders to these areas that way they aren’t in populated areas and you GSA track them all. Though again that would make to much sense and the human rights groups would become unglued to this proposal.

As for the California Border Police, I think it good idea though we do look at were the money is going to come from to fund this and the other question is that they will be classified in the wording I believe as militias or something along line. I really have to question the reality that they would not only come under the control of the Governors authority to deploy this Organization, that the President will have the ultimate authority above that of the Governors of the state that control this Border police under the US Constitution and specially if it will be funded by federal money. I simple cant see a positive outcome on this border police, I agree with it but there are question to answered and a lot has to with the Constitution and the courts to shut this down.

What do you think, am I wrong here?

Well, if the federal government wants those borders open, (and tese days it looks like they do) they will fight tooth and nail against any State Border Police and any national Guard on the borders. Maybe they won't fight out in the open where we could see them, but likely behind the scenes such as threatening or bribing elected officials.

On the other hand California has the smallest international border with Mexico. It may not be that big a deal to shut it down. We've discussed for a long time--since April in fact--what will happen when the border begins to fill up with volunteers.

    1) As they run out of places to get through--up untill now the baddies have been willing to wait us out or go the long way around--they will start forcing their way through us, or start taking their frustrations out on Border Patrol.

    2) We now just about have so many volunteers stretched across the border on a regular basis that Border Patrol can't back us up. We've reached that lovely point where all we can do is watch the crossers go by us and wave and say "Buenos Noches, Via con Dios" or whatever and watch them pass.

    3) Finally, it would have to take months to hire and train this Border Police so we have plenty of time to wait and watch the feds and pro-illegal immigration start their meddling and sabotage.

    It should be fun.
