    Looking into Mexican culture

I made a recent discovery about a fraction of Mexican culture.

Our maintenance man, and his brother who lives with his family, were over moving a new fridge into our place one evening. They began speaking to each other, but it did not sound like Spanish at all, nor did the elder brothers accent sound Spanish a bit.

Now we had been under the assumption that they were from Mexico, but this was a little confusing to me.

I finally asked my son's friend, who is from Mexico, what was with the maintenance guys accent, it did not sound Mexican/Spanish. He said that the whole family speaks something called "Triki". I investigated for over and hour and found out it is Copala Triqui, and is spoke by a limited group in inner region of Mexico.

This boy made it sound like it was some weird foreign language, inferior and something to be made fun of.

After reading this article about the culture and lagnuage: http://www.sil.org/Mexico/mixteca/triqu ... ch-trc.htm , I now understand where my son's atypical Mexican friend gets his idea about this mans language and ways.

Apparently the average Spanish speaking Mexican looks down on these people and their language. Apparently these people have been dominated by this inferiority complex placed on them by the majority of the Mexican population. Shall we say "racism" and "xenophobia"?

Now all of us who have been fighting illegal immigration understand the nasty remarks we have all endured while fighting to end illegal immigration, being called racist and xenophobes by the OBL crowd and by illegal aliens (mainly from Mexico) themselves.

So knowing this, I found it surprising that they want to cry foul while they are here illegally and Americans want them to learn English and assimilate, in the very least, yet in their own country, they think nothing of treating some of their own fellow countrymen/women as inferior, scorned and subjected to ridicule for clinging to their own unique language and culture, instead of assimilating into the general Mexican culture and speaking Spanish!!!

This fine example of their own double standards within the illegal alien population from Mexico, is another good reason we need to keep fighting to have our borders secured, and laws enforced, thus making them self-deport, or by governmental "assistance".

I think this is nothing but a system of one way benefits--to Latin Ameicans. The US, with the exception of large business enterprises in a position to exploit this labor pool while they shut real Americans out of jobs, gets very little. Other who gain are the army of legal advisors and consultants who can successfully sue governments--using the pretext of discrimination and civil rights.

Anyone who can move from a backwards culture to a country like the US is receiving an enormous education in state of the arts technologies. We have to pay for an education in the latest sciences and our own college graduates face a lot of competition for available jobs in their specialties. The Latino immigrant workers acquire a lot of firsthand knowledge that, with some community organization, would be quite useful in their home countries.

But the overarching reality is that few people seem to have much sense of civic reponsibility anymore. You wouldn't know this unless you actually worked around cynical people 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. I work in construction and it just never seems to improve; people are always angry, they expect to get away with mistakes, they don't step up to involve themselves in civic discussion, and they just follow along with the prevailing political winds exploited by crafty, insincere politicians.

I am excited, though, that immigration reform is turning into a powerful people's movement. Maybe we will find a major politician who is astute enough to provide some concrete and realistic advice on how to tackle this problem. Other groups succeed in getting political leaders to go to bat for them.

That is really interesting. I have also heard from individuals that people from Central America, El Salvador, Honduras, etc. detest the Mexican people, I asked one time why that was? The central americans told me it was because people from Mexico are basically trash, because they talk stupid to everyone and have no respect. I found that rather interesting. They both speak Spanish, But the dialect is very different, please don't ever make the mistake of calling a Central American a Mexican, that is the most offensive thing you could call them....They get really mad over that....

I don't care what country south of the border that they come from. The people who break our laws by crossing into this country illegally, then break more laws to stay here, are all trash as far as I'm concerned. I put them right up there in the same category as our crooked politicians.

    Welcome TXDixieChk1!
Thank You! I am ever so glad to be part of my true brothers/sisters of America.. Hey if you get the chance pls go and check out the website WWW.TOPIX.COM, go to the Illegal Immigration blog forum and you will be called every racist name in the book for standing up for America and our laws, I got asked if I was a KKK member and I mean they throw all sorts of venom at you. I had to pray after I got off that site. There's really some radical idiots on there, and these people are calling themselves Americans, "NOT".... One guy told me that Americans need to sit back on their fat lazy A****s and just let them finish taking over this country and that we will be speaking spanish when they get done with us. Sounds like a threat to me....Its just crazy...

I agree whole heartedly. I wish there was a poll to know how many more Americans feel the same way as us? All you hear about thru the media is the Supporters for the Illegals, you never hear how many Americans want these laws enforced and want our borders secured.......
