    Hewlett Packard Houston-I-9 AUDITS

A family member has worked for the company for 15 years. He recently was requested to bring his birth certificate and Social Security card for verification to Human Resources dept. This guy has an American name, was born in the U.S.
The group he works with includes immigrants from India, Romania, Vietnam, Germany, yet none of those guys had to verify legal status? In fact, only one other man in his group received the same notice and he is U.S. born too.
The company said it is doing a random selection of verifications. Funny how the immigrants were not included, even tho some have been here over 15 years.
E-Verify clearly states it is for NEW HIRES ONLY. Any idea what is going on? Has anyone else had this experience?

Our company did the same, only they required ALL employees to bring in their documents. I suspect they did that so no one could scream racism.
