WIKILEAKS: Hillary Got $12 Million for Clinton Charity As Quid Pro Quo For Morocco Meeting

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton arranged a $12 million donation from Moroccan King Mohammed VI to her family’s charity in 2014 in return for the Clinton Global Initiative hosting its international meeting in the North African Muslim nation, according to an email made public Thursday by Wikileaks.

The Moroccan monarch’s funds went to the Clinton Foundation’s endowment and to CGI. The Jan. 18, 2015, email was included in Wikileaks’ latest batch of communications to and from Clinton’s presidential campaign chairman, John Podesta.

The email from Huma Abedin, Clinton’s Deputy Chief of Staff at the State Department, was addressed to Podesta and campaign manager Robby Mook. Hillary Clinton was a director of the foundation at the time.

Singapore and Hong Kong officials reportedly were also vying to convene the CGI meeting in their countries, but the North African nation ultimately hosted it in a five-star hotel in Marrakesh, Morocco, in 2015. Abedin told Podesta and Mook that Morocco was not CGI’s “first choice.”

The actual meeting was paid for by OCP, the Moroccan-government-owned mining company that has been accused of serious human rights violations. Clinton vigorously supported the Moroccan King when she was Secretary of State and the U.S.-financed Export-Import Bank gave OCP a $92 million loan guarantee during her tenure as Secretary of State.

The mining company also contributed between $5 million to $10 million to the Clinton Foundation, according to the charity’s web site.

Abedin described the arrangement in the email as having been organized by her boss. Hillary Clinton “created this mess and she knows it,” she told Podesta and Mook.

She said the Moroccan deal was entirely dreamed up by her boss. “This was HRC’s idea, our office approached the Moroccans and they 100 percent believe they are doing this at her request. The King has personally committed approx. $12 million both for the endowment and to support the meeting.” HRC stands for Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Abedin said Clinton’s attendance at the CGI event was a condition of the $12 million contribution. “Just to give you some context, the condition upon which the Moroccans agreed to host the meeting was her participation. If hrc was not part if it, meeting was a non-starter,” Abedin said.

Politico in 2015 reported that Clinton “was seen by Rabat as among its most ardent supporters in the Obama administration.” Rabat is the capital of Morocco.

The Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice charged OCP with “serious human rights violations,” including exploitation of workers by not “adequately compensating the impoverished people who live there.”

Mohamed Yeslem Beisat, the Washington envoy for the Polisaro Front, told U.S. News & World Report in April 2013 that “OCP is the first beneficiary of the war and the first beneficiary of the occupation — it is the one that is cashing in on the misery of thousands of refugees and hundreds of political detainees for the past 40 years.”

Polisaro claims to lead a Moroccan government-in-exile based in Tindouf, Algeria.

“They’re doing this because they know Hillary has some chances of being president of the United States. And they want her to support their brutal occupation of Western Sahara,” Beisat charged.

The Moroccan firm mines phosphates. Human rights critics have called OCP’s mining product “blood phosphates,” appropriating the term “blood diamonds” for gems mined in operations that kill and injure local workers

OCP is not the only mining company linked to human rights violations that has donated to the Clinton Foundation. The foundation accepted a $100 million pledge from Lukas Lundin, who owns mining and oil drilling operations in North Africa and in the Congo.

OCP retained the law firm of Covington & Burling, one of Washington’s lobbying giants, paying the firm $1.4 million in fees from 2012 to 2015.

Stuart Eizenstat, a former White House domestic policy chief under President Carter and an influential Democratic Party insider, was the main lobbyist for the mining firm. He was also President Bill Clinton’s ambassador to the European Union, a Deputy Secretary of the Treasury and Under Secretary at the Department of Commerce.

Eizenstat specialized in foreign trade issues at Commerce where he worked in the International Trade Administration.

Hillary Clinton officially visited Morocco twice, in November 2009 and in February 2012, meeting with the King on both occasions. The two also met in New York in December 2013 where it was believed the two discussed Morocco’s bid to host the CGI meeting and the King’s $12 million donation.

The Moroccan World News described the meeting as showing “renewed friendship between the royal family and the Clinton family, as well as Hillary Clinton’s esteem for Morocco and its people.”

Abedin warned both campaign executives that if CGI decided to renege on the agreement, it would hurt Clinton’s relationship with the King. “It will break a lot of china to back out now,” she wrote.

Ultimately, Clinton did not attend the meeting because it was close to the launch of her presidential campaign, but the former president and daughter Chelsea were present and during the conference were guests at one of the Moroccan King’s palaces.

The Clintons, Trading Overseas Trips for Foundation Donations
    by JIM GERAGHTY
    October 21, 2016 9:50 AM

For a long time, the defense from the Clintons was that even though foreign governments were giving to the Clinton Foundation while Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State, no one could ever prove a quid pro quo, a particular circumstance where the Clintons agreed to take certain actions in exchange for donations. Bill Clinton shrugged at the complaints of favor-trading at the Clinton Foundation and the State Department: “It was natural for people who’ve been our political allies and personal friends to call and ask for things.”

Well, this morning, quid met quo.

Hillary Clinton solicited a $12 million donation from a government her State Department considered corrupt, then realized the “mess” it would cause to her presidential run, a newly leaked *e-mail reveals.

King Mohammed VI of Morocco agreed to give the money to the Clinton Foundation, provided that it hold a convention in his country in May 2015 with Clinton as the keynote speaker.

But Clinton realized that the conference, slated for a month after she announced her run for president, would hurt her candidacy.

“No matter what happens, she will be in Morocco hosting CGI [Clinton Global Initiative] on May 5-7, 2015. Her presence was a condition for the Moroccans to proceed so there is no going back on this,” top Clinton aide Huma Abedin wrote to campaign manager Robby Mook in a November 2014 e-mail revealed by Wiki*Leaks.

In another e-mail, Abedin warned that if Clinton didn’t attend, the $12 million would be off the table.

Here’s Huma Abedin’s e-mail, explaining why Hillary had to appear at the Morocco wrote in a January 2015 *e-mail to Mook and campaign manager John *Podesta.

Just to give you some context, the condition upon which the Moroccans agreed to host the meeting was her participation. If hrc was not part if it, meeting was a non-starter. CGI also wasn’t pushing for a meeting in Morocco and it wasn’t their first choice. This was HRC’s idea, our office approached the Moroccans and they 100 percent believe they are doing this at her request. The King has personally committed approx $12 million both for the endowment and to support the meeting. It will break a lot of china to back out now when we had so many opportunities to do it in the past few months. She created this mess and she knows it.

Hillary canceled her trip and sent Bill Clinton and Chelsea Clinton instead. Her top-level staff and supporters like Robby Mook, Podesta and Abedin seemed confused about whether she was going in late March.

    It gets worse:

The meeting was officially paid for by OCP, a Moroccan-government-owned mining company that has been accused of human-rights violations.

Hillary Clinton supported the monarch when she was secretary of state, and the US-financed Export-Import Bank gave OCP a $92 million loan guarantee during her tenure, The Daily Caller reported.

Politico reported in 2015 that Clinton “was seen by [the Moroccan capital] Rabat as among its staunchest supporters in the Obama administration.”

The Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice charged OCP with “serious human-rights violations,” the Daily Caller said.

All the flaws of Donald Trump don’t change any of this. Hillary and Bill Clinton have let the world’s governments know that they are ready to talk terms of what they’re willing to do in exchange for multimillion-dollar donations to their foundation. If that doesn’t deeply trouble Americans of all political stripes, our country is in deep, deep trouble.

Trump Responds to WikiLeaks Reveal on Clinton Foundation and Morocco: ‘More Pay for Play’

    by ALEX SWOYER

    Washington, DC

Donald Trump responded to a recent revelation from WikiLeaks that Hillary Clinton planned to speak at the Clinton Global Initiative’s 2015 meeting in Morocco on the condition of a $12 million dollar donation, again accusing the former secretary of state of pay for play scheme between the Department of State and the Clinton Foundation.

“More pay for play,” Trump alleged during a campaign rally in Fletcher, North Carolina, where he currently trails Clinton by an average of 2.5 points.

The WikiLeaks reveal comes from Clinton’s campaign chair John Podesta’s hacked emails between him and her top aide Huma Abedin.

“Abedin wrote that ‘this was HRC’s idea’ for her to speak at a meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative in Morocco in May 2015 as an explicit condition for the $12 million commitment from the king,” Fox News’s Ed Henry reports.

“No matter what happens, she will be in Morocco hosting CGI on May 5-7, 2015. Her presence was a condition for the Moroccans to proceed so there is no going back on this,” Abedin stated in the 2014 email.

As Breitbart News’s Frances Martel writes, “In a subsequent email, Abedin explained that the King of Morroco had invested millions in the meeting on the condition that Hillary Clinton would attend.”

    The email read:

Just to give you some context, the condition upon which the Moroccans agreed to host the meeting was her participation. If hrc was not part if it, meeting was a non-starter. CGI also wasn’t pushing for a meeting in Morocco and it wasn’t their first choice. She created this mess and she knows it.

Trump repeated his proposal of ethics reforms to “drain the swamp in Washington, D.C.”

“Hillary Clinton is the most corrupt politician ever to seek the office of the presidency,” Trump told the crowd, which responded by chanting “Lock her up.”

“Lets do this — Nov 8 — lets win!” Trump responded to the chant. “We win, we have lots of options, but we got to win.”
