It's slang. One meaning... Is a hat, used to filter out radio waves that can read your mind. So paranoid conspiracy theory types can cover their heads in foil and be safe from the mind-reading waves of the CIA, FBI, ICE, DEA... anything government.

I know someone in law enforcement and he has actually encountered a guy, which had totally fried his head on drugs wearing one. Also, there is a movie with some guy wearing one.

It is also a drug term used to signify that they are going to "chase the dragon" or smoke something on tinfoil...usualy heroin or opium.

I never heard that one before, but I know what movie the wearing of tinfoil was in, one of my favorites, Signs, with Mel Gibson, remember the funny tin foil hats the kids and their Uncle had on watching tv?

I saw a photo of that liberal bloggers group wearing tinfoil hats at their covention in Las Vegas just recently. It may be symbolic of that group.

That was used at Free Republic all the time. It was used as a way of calling a person a troll.
