Some of Britain’s far-right political parties and groups are openly endorsing Donald Trump and embracing his controversial views on immigration. On Facebook, right-wing adversaries of the U.K.’s recent decision to accept refugees have published posts expressing support for Trump, and saying that in the U.S., he should be elected president.

Britain First, a far-right nationalist party, shared images and video clips celebrating Trump’s rise in the polls as he campaigns for the 2016 presidential election. They also posted one of his quotes in which he described undocumented immigrants in the U.S. as “illegal aliens… leeching off my tax dollars.”

The English Defence League, an anti-Islamist protest group, shared a slew of pro-Trump posts, including a video from 2011 showing Trump saying the world has a “Muslim problem.” The UK Independence Party, which is urging Britain to leave the European Union, posted a video highlighting Trump’s call for a wall between the U.S. and Mexico.

Online users applauded the idea, with one saying Trump should be president of the United States and that Nigel Farage, the leader of the UK Independence Party, should be the U.K.’s prime minister. “Our countries need them,” the user posted. Back in July, Farage said he shared similar concerns with Trump, but avoided making a direct comparison between himself and the Republican presidential contender.

Praise for Trump and his views comes after the movements recently cheered Russian President Vladimir Putin for his hard-line anti-immigration position. They have also called for protests against the influx of migrants and refugees, which they view as a threat to the character of the U.K. and the region’s security.

Last week, British Prime Minister David Cameron announced that the U.K. will welcome “thousands more” Syrian refugees. On Monday, he said Britain will accept 20,000 refugees from Syria by 2020—likely to further fuel pushback from groups against immigration.
