This was back in Feb or March but it is a good idea to keep reminding people not to let their congressmen change their minds (unless they were the nay voters like mine!) while the Senate stalls around trying to override it with an amnesty plan.

To gofer: How did J.D. Hayworth vote on HR4437?

Go to http: //clerk.house.gov/evs/2005/roll661.xml . Look in the Noes Section.

Voted on floor of the House against final passage of border security and enforcement bill in 2005

Rep. Hayworth voted againstH.R. 4437, the Border Protection, Antiterrorism, and Illegal Immigration Control Act of 2005. H.R. 4437, as amended and passed, includes major improvements in interior enforcement and border security, as well as a reduction in legal immigration numbers. Among its most significant provisions are: a requirement that all businesses must use an electronic system to check if all new hires have the legal right to work in the country; additional security fencing along the Mexican border; a mandate that the federal government cooperate with local authorities in picking up all illegal aliens they detain; and elimination of the visa lottery program that each year awards 50,000 green cards to randomly selected winners. H.R. 4437 passed by a vote of 239 to 182. (source: NumbersUSA)
I am shocked at this. He has one of the most vocal opponents of illegals and even wrote a book about it. I know he has been hailed by Gordon Liddy as one of the "good guys." We deserve an answer from him. I have heard him on talk radio praising he house bill.

There were certain provisions in HR 4437 that even the people who are totally against illegal immigration didn't like. You have to read the individual comments about it.

I believe it has something to do with the provision that made them all felons and therefore we would wind up having them all in our prisons instead of deported.

They need to enforce the laws the agreed to in the past.

Why would anyone take their word they will enforce any new laws?

You are absolutely right, Bob. But HR 4437 was designed to make the laws tougher. Even the toughest laws, if left unenforced are pretty useless.

I believe the border fence was also part of the original HR4437 as passed by the house last December. The Senate wasted six months debating about it and then did pretty much nothing because the people won't agree to let them give amnesty to 20 million illegal aliens, which are probably closer in numbers to 25 or 30 million now that they have left the border wide open after the Senate wrote an engraved invitation to more illegals.
