As there are many aspects of this problem that need to be fixed, we need to work on them one at a time, using all our voices at the same time to be heard. I'm not saying don't email and call on the birthright law, but to reserve some energy for when we all tackle it together. Don't wear yourselves out unnecessarily because we have alot of work to do and as we are spending the week-end researching, and making suggestions, we are finding out the most pressing parts of this problem, so that we will all be ready to hit them together right after the holiday.
This is good advice, and bears repeating.

Holly, wake up and stop being a crying beeeaaaatch. Answer this:
    Whose here?
Who is continuing to come here?
    Who will forever come here?

I cant wait until Congress conducts their meetings in Spanish and our next President is required to speak Spanish. The time is coming much sooner than you think. Get used to it.
New York Yankees (Latino immigrants) 27 Chicago Cubs (a.k.a. crying, lazy, union American workers) 0

    Either way we win.
Having read the Hispanic forums quote above I ca see they are using our own (some of them are stupid laws) laws against us.

    THAT will be our downfall

Sounds like wishfull thinking on your part. Ony Justice Kennedy knows what SCOTUS will do with this bill. So let's pass it and see what they say.

Actually all this bill does is force the President to implement the 14th Amendment as it's writers intended. Notice it makes a simple change to the INA to clarify POLICY adopted by the executive branch (President), it is not to change a law passed by Congress. The President has been intentionally giving illegal alien babies US Citizenship against the intent of the 14th Amendment. Since he won't stop this Unconstitutional practice Congess will have to.

When you call your reps (especially the Demos ones), be sure to metion the current practice also discriminates agains legal immigrants!

    This is from legalimmigrantsfirst.org:

    Illegal Alien Babies
    Â*
Â* Granting US citizenship to the US born children of illegal aliens is a form of amnesty, since the Senators who wrote the 14th Amendment clearly stated it "will not, of course, include persons born in the United States who are foreigners, aliens".

Â*Â* Since this practice grants illegal aliens something the babies of legal immigrants waiting overseas for an entry visa do not receive, it is preferential treatment for illegal aliens, and puts them ahead of legal immigrants. Consequently we oppose this practice, and support the original intent of the 14th Amendment.

    H. J. Res. 46 - proposed by Ron Paul that actually amends the constitution.

I believe the others are "bills" that then can be manipulated and tossed aside later on with 'newer' bills.

Does anybody have greater clarification on this?

You're right, but a constitutional amendment is much harder to pass. Passing a constitutional amendment requires a supermajority which is two thirds of the House and two thirds of the Senate. It's a tough road to hoe.

2/3rds of the House and Senate might also be needed to get this bill passed, since Bush might veto it and a 2/3rds majority is needed to override a Prsidential veto. But that would still be easier than an Amendment, since additinally 75% of the States have to ratify an Amendment. I think if we had to go the Amendment route, we may as well add that current anchor babies upon reaching age 21 in order to retain their US Citizenship would have to pass the Citizenship test and swear allegiance to the US.
