The presidents "shift" says to me that he is very well aware of the public's vehement opposition to any kind of amnesty and that the Pence plan won't pass our smell test either. Deperate times call for desperate measures so he and the senate may still be able to get that camels nose under the tent by agreeing to a secure border first bill if it includes a specific timetable for the implementation of a subsequent guest-worker/"path to citizenship" program.
As a guest on Lou Dobbs tonight, Congressman Pence confirmed my suspicions when he said his bill would "allow" two years for the border to be secured before before a "pathway to citzenship" would commence. Yes, I am paraphrasing but that is the gist of it.

I googled the hell out of this and could not find any reference to Pence having a specific legalization time line when he first proposed this mess.
