I met with my mayor today and I wanted to share my experience with you all. Let me start by saying, when my friend set this meeting up, she was informed that illegal immigration was the job of the Federal Government and there was really nothing he could do about it. So, I ran off several articles on what other cities were doing along with a plethora of other things, mostly statistics. The response I received from him was this and I quote" It is about economics, if we sent them all home tomorrow our economy would collapse. It's about consumers and producing the cheapest goods." I said with all due respect that is called corporate welfare. Corporations employ cheap labor and the tax-payer picks up the bill. He then asked if I had contacted our state representative. I replied, "Yes quite often". I also went on to tell him that I have also contacted Senators that were out of state to let them know that even though I was not a constituent, they were going to hear my opinion because they were on a federal pay-roll. He then said and get this, we as a city could not afford to be sued by the ACLU What? I said, "Since when does the ACLU decide what laws are implemented to protect the citizens of a community?" We talked for about a half hour. I shook his hand and thanked him for meeting with me. I vowed to make it my personal mission to make sure he does not get re-elected, if I have to run against him myself. My efforts were not entirely fruitless. I encourage all of you to make an appointment with your mayor and see what response you get, it is important to know where they stand on this issue.
