Strangers don't belong in our houses

To the editor:
To the writer who wants to "Open our country's doors to migrants"
(Letters, Jan. 6): Picture coming home from shopping/work/school/whatever, walking through your front door and finding a dirty man on your sofa, eating your food, and leaving trash around your place. How would you feel? Like most people, you might worry about your and your family's safety, and you'd probably reach for the phone and call the police.
But the person on the sofa stops you, and asks you not to call the police, forgive them, and then mentions that "I was cold and hungry, and I also cleaned up the dishes and put them away for you!"
So now they're doing work you don't like doing yourself. Hummm, maybe you shouldn't be so harsh. So you only tell them to leave. But the response is that they have no place to go, it's cold outside, and they have no money for food ... and you let them stay, but only for one night.
The next day you come home again and not only is he still there, but now his wife and daughter are with him! And he's found your favorite sweater and shipped it to his cold cousin in the home country, and he hopes it was OK to use your credit card?
Do you let them stay? Do you give them food? Do you give them new clothes? What about paying for their medical expenses out of your own wallet?
Well, if you're like most people, we feel strangers do not belong in our own homes. I suspect terms like breaking and entering, burglary and a few others might come to mind, and I would have involved the police to clear them out and keep them away from my house -- they were not invited!
We have immigration policies and many laws that permit people to come to our country legally, and I applaud the concept. What don't you understand about the word illegal?
