'Cowboy' beats 'normal guy' in Idaho governor primary

(CNN) - Two-term Gov. Butch Otter has won the Republican primary in Idaho, narrowly beating out tea party challenger state Sen. Russ Fulcher.

That would be the "cowboy" beating the "normal guy."

The race gained national attention after a debate last week hosted by Idaho Public Television. Along with Otter and Fulcher, two lesser-known Republicans participated in what turned out to be a more entertaining than informative debate.

Both of those candidates, Walt Bayes and Harley Brown, sported long beards, and Brown was donning full biker regalia.

At one point, Brown laid out Idaho voters' choices: "A cowboy, a curmudgeon, a biker, or a normal guy. Take your pick," pointing to Otter, Bayes, himself and Fulcher, respectively.

Otter will now face off against Democrat A.J. Balukoff, a businessman and Boise School Board Chairman, in November's election. Otter is considered the favorite in a state where Republicans have the upper hand over the Democrats.
