Thread: IHOP: in marina del rey

I went to IHOP (International House of Pancakes) on sunday with my daughter.

I was sooo upset... ALL OF THE KITCHEN STAFF, ALL OF BUSBOYS, ALL OF THE WAITERS/WAITRESSES were hispanic, but one girl. ALL OF THEM were speaking spanish very loudly when orders were ready and telling the cooks what they needed. The one "whitish" girl was speaking english and they were giving her a hard time and one busboy gave her a very very dirty look. I am not sure i was reading the interaction correct, but she seemed 'alone'.

I saw other patrons sorta looking at the 'kitchen area' crew and making faces, but they didn't care. I am not kidding, there were like 10 workers chatting it up in spanish, loudly.. and when they come to the table, they spoke fair english... but the message was undeniable....

Curious as to where were the white, asian, black workers???

I would recommend you call the head office and complain. IMO, common courtesy demeands that these people speak English when working in an environment frequented by English speaking patrons.

I emailed them.... we'll see if they get back to me.

And tell them that you won't come back until the situation changes. Spread the word.

The IHOPs here are just as bad. I've complained to the headquarters before(never got a response)because the staff run around the restaurant speaking Spanish. When they're off work they often hang around in the parking lot working on their cars. I don't think IHOP cares.

A couple of years ago a guy I know who eats at IHOP told me his neighborhood restaurant was raided by the (then) INS. Everyone in the kitchen fled out the back door save for one guy, who was an illegal from Nicaragua. When he was asked for some identification he reportedly told them he was busy cooking and asked if they could come back the next day. They agreed and left the restaurant. He flew the coop immediately, never to return to that restaurant. He now works in a local Kroger store. I've reported that, too, but he's still there.

There's an IHOP in my town; I'll go check it out.

Same thing here in Las Vegas. IHop's, all the fast food places, casino
jobs, etc. are all filled with spanish speaking people. We have a real
problem here because its one of the top places for illegals to come
for jobs. It makes me so furious that they have taken over our city.
Teenagers and many others cannot find jobs anymore. It's so unfair
that business and illegal aliens are allowed to get away with this.
ICE, etc. is concentrating on criminals and people that were ordered
deported but never left, but nothing is being done about all the others
that are here.

Yes, its a problem in NV. Harry Reid needs to be taken to task about it. He has conflict of interest in enforcing the laws in his own state.

same here in crystal lake, illinois, the local ihops, all the kitchen help, bus boys etc are non English speaking people. at least the last time we were there almost 3 years ago. the tables were sticky, they couldn't get the order right and the place just looked dirty, can't face going back.

Chick-fil-a really gets my goat. The kitchen staff is
usually all speaking Spanish & the front staff is all
high school & college age kids who speak English
perfectly. I always make it a point to ask manager
if they have a language segregation issue. I've
called CFA hqs a couple of times & accused them of
segregation.
