    ILLEGAL ALIEN STORIES (California Wildfires)

    Border Patrol pitches in

    Posted @ 4:43 PM

Border Patrol agents from San Diego are helping with the wildfire effort, agency officials said.

Since Sunday morning, agents have aided more than 200 illegal border crossers encountered in the path of the Harris Fire.

Many of the border crossers surrendered to agents after being surprised by the fast-moving fire, officials said.

Agents treated people for severe burns and evacuated them to local hospitals.

The Border Patrol is also contributing more than 300 agents a day to the San Diego County emergency effort. Agents are assisting local law enforcement officials with evacuations, traffic control, and perimeter control.

The Border Patrol’s horse unit has rescued more than 50 horses and transported them to local animal shelters, officials said.

    * Six undocumented Mexican immigrants were arrested today by U.S. Border Patrol agents at Qualcomm Stadium, after a report that they were stealing food and water meant for evacuees, Border Patrol spokesman Damon Foreman said. San Diego police responded to a call about alleged theft from the evacuation center and encountered six people in a van who didn't speak English and didn't have California driver's licenses, Foreman said. The police officers called the Border Patrol, and its agents arrived at the stadium and made the arrests, he said. Border Patrol agents are not looking for illegal immigrants at the center but will continue responding to police calls for assistance.

    Donations being collected for farmworkers

The National Latino Research Center announced Wednesday that it will begin collecting donations for displaced farm workers and their families in North County.

Farm workers were among the most vulnerable affected by the recent wildfires, said Konane Martinez, a researcher with the Cal State San Marcos-based center.

"We ask that you join our efforts to ensure that nobody impacted by this disaster falls through rescue relief safety nets," Martinez said.

The National Latino Research Center is part of the Farmworker Care Coalition, which is coordinating the relief effort.

Organizers said they need clothes, food, and bedding. To make a donation, call (760) 750-8567.

    Displaced Farmworker Aid

    Dear Farmworker CARE Coalition and Allies;

The National Latino Research Center is collecting items for Evacuees and Displaced Farmworker and immigrant families in the Pala/Pauma Valley, Rice Canyon, Rincon and Fallbrook communities. As members and allies of the Farmworker CARE Coalition we ask that you join our efforts to ensure that nobody impacted by this disaster falls through rescue relief safety nets. We plan on immediately coordinating collection of clothes, food, and bedding for affected families, as well as aid in efforts to secure housing for families who have had their homes destroyed. Farmworker Families affected most likely won't receive aid that other insured San Diego residents do, so it is up to us to provide support as they begin recover from this horrific tragedy.

We just heard word from the Pala Mission that a trailer park near Harrah's casino has burned down, leaving over 30 trailers displaced. Each trailer housed multiple families. Two Lideres Comunitarios from Poder Popular were impacted. In Rice Canyon, three Poder Popular lideres comunitarios have lost their trailers and we have not heard from them since Monday. Families on the reservations began to be evacuated this morning. Lideres Comunitarios from the Fallbrook area were evacuated through Camp Pendleton and relocated to Oceanside and Carlsbad.

We will be in touch when we have more information about exact needs and how this effort will be coordinated. In the meantime, please begin to activate your networks. As the university is closed this week I will be communicating and coordinating from home, please call me (Konane) on my cell phone if you have any questions. 868-603-3632

    In Solidarity,
    Konane Martinez and Sandra Carmona

    silly BearFlagRepublic,

This is different, Celebrities are losing their homes too. Why this is a huge national disaster, then to have someone stealing food and water? what next, looting the mansions that are unprotected because of the mandatory evacuations? why if the border patrol was not called and a Celeb lost or thought they lost a thing, good bye campaign donations...

Wildfires in northern Mexico destroying more than 60 homes

    By: Associated Press -

MEXICO CITY -- Two wildfires have destroyed more than 60 homes in northern Mexico, across the border from the deadly blazes raging in California, Mexican officials said Wednesday.

The blazes, no longer burning on Wednesday, started independently of the San Diego County blazes that have destroyed nearly 1,300 homes but were fueled by the same winds, said Commander Gabriel Gomez Ruiz, director of civil protection for the state of Baja California.

Flames ripped through the cities of Ensenada and Tecate in Baja California, but were under control by Tuesday afternoon, Gomez Ruiz said. About 200 people were evacuated in Ensenada -- but no one was injured, he added.

Meanwhile, Mexican firefighters were working alongside U.S. firefighters in the San Diego area.

Rafael Carrillo, commander and assistant director of firefighters in Tijuana, said he sent 35 of his men to Escondido in San Diego County to work for about a week.

School has been suspended since Monday in Tijuana because of the smoke from the California fires.
