Illegal Aliens Who Have “Anchor Babies” Use More Welfare Than United States Citizens

Households that are led by Illegal aliens and have children born in the United States are more likely to be on welfare services than are households headed by US-born individuals, per a recent report published by the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS).
59.4% of illegal alien-headed households use one or multiple welfare programs, compared with 39% of households led by individuals born in the United States, the December 19, 2023 report.
High rates of welfare usage among illegal aliens “primarily reflect their generally lower education levels and their resulting low-incomes, coupled with the large share who have U.S.-born children who are eligible for all welfare programs from birth,” the report highlighted. “More than half of all illegal immigrant households have one or more U.S.-born children.”
Children born to illegal aliens in the US, colloquially known as “anchor babies,’ are granted automatic birthright citizenship although the US Supreme Court hasn’t issued offices ruling on the matter. Illegal aliens can’t access the majority of welfare programs. However, their children born in the country can receive welfare benefits that their parents can exploit.
“The American welfare system is designed in large part to help low-income families with children, which describes a large share of immigrants,” CIS declared in the report.
Naveen Athrappully of The Epoch Times dozen states provide Medicaid to all low-income children irrespective of their immigration status. On top of that, children have access to several government food programs.
For example, programs such as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, the Women, Infants, and Children nutrition program, free or subsidized lunch and breakfast for students, and Medicaid for children (Children’s Health Insurance Program) were “explicitly created for minors,” the report detailed.
The CIS report used data from the US Census Bureau’s 2022 Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP).
“The reality is that illegal immigrants are included in the SIPP, a large share of them are poor, and they or their U.S.-born children have welfare eligibility; and many take advantage of this eligibility,” CIS highlighted.
“A very large share of immigrants come to America, have children, struggle to provide for them, and so turn to taxpayers for support. This can be seen as especially problematic given that there is already a large number of Americans who are also struggling to provide for their children.”
Per data from the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), the total number of American-born children of illegal aliens in the United States as of June 2023 hovered around 5.78 million.
FAIR projects that “illegal aliens and their U.S.-born children impose a net annual cost of $150.6 billion on American taxpayers as of the beginning of 2023.” In the last five years, the yearly cost has increased by nearly $35 billion.
“This burden will only continue to grow as a result of the Biden administration’s open-borders policies,” FAIR noted.
Ending birthright citizenship is a critical immigration reform that must go through if we want to maintain any semblance of order in the immigration system. Every passing year, the Historic American continues to get obliterated by mass migration – be it legal or illegal. To preserve this great nation and be able to bequeath it for future generations to enjoy, the ruling class must pass patriotic immigration reforms.
