Illegal Immigration Solutions That Will Never Happen!

I admit that the following solutions to Illegal Immigration are just too simple for an incompetent Congress to deal with and even George Bush did not support such an approach. It is too bad, for if Teddy Roosevelt were here, I am certain he would handle it this way. He was a real leader and a great President. Jim Walker

The problem of illegal immigration and its solutions seem so simple to a layman like me. First we just need to assess who is to blame for it. I believe that most Americans would say that it is the fault of the individual Mexican who for some inexplicable reason sneaks across the border between our two countries to take jobs away from U.S. Citizens. And while they are at it, they hit us up for free healthcare, welfare, miscellaneous services they do not deserve and full rights of citizen of the United States. They are getting revenge for Texas Independence and the Mexican War in a very quick fashion.

In my view there are two entities to blame for illegal immigration from Mexico. It is neither me nor people like me and it is not the individual Mexicans. The two entities are the United States Government, specifically the people we elect to the Senate and the House; and it is the Mexican Government. In the case of the Mexican Government, it is the type of government employed in that country.

Consider first that we elect our government officials and send them off to Washington to represent us. Part of that representation is to operate a legal immigration system. Part of that representation is to not allow illegal immigration. Obviously, the second piece of their responsibility where immigration is concern has been mostly ignored. In the private sector, they would be fired for incompetence. In no way can anyone of sound mind defend the job that the United States Senate and the House of Representatives have done concerning immigration.

Then there is Mexico! Let’s consider Mexico’s assets with thanks to the Wall Street Journal:

    · Thousands of miles of beautiful coastline – a Mecca for tourism and tourism jobs

    · Oil! Lots of it – more than Dubai, one of the richest and fastest growing countries in the Middle East. Almost as much as Qatar also very rich and fast growing. Both of these countries have so much growth they need to import labor.

    · Trained, disciplined, skilled labor and a large group of risk takers with an entrepreneurial spirit. They come here illegally and start many small businesses and hire other illegal Aliens to work for them. They come to the United States as much for the access to capital as for access to jobs.

    · Mexico’s largest trading partner is located on their border.

Unfortunately all of this is offset by Mexico’s shortcomings which are virtually all driven by its government and its constitution:

    · The economy is controlled by a very few families. 50% of the Mexican economy is controlled by one family. These entities do not create new jobs. The shortfall in new job creation each year is about equal to the number of illegal immigrants that enter the U.S. each year from Mexico. Imagine that! Entrepreneurs create most new jobs even in the United States and Mexico’s Entrepreneurs sneak across the border and work in the U.S.

    · Competition is barred in most areas of Mexico where Entrepreneurs could do it better and be creating new jobs.

    · Oil! The oil industry could be a job haven in Mexico creating hundreds of thousands of jobs each year but alas that is a government controlled monopoly as well. And Pemex, the national oil company, does not even look for new oil reserves. They are also heavily in debt and very inefficient as a producer and with stagnating corruption. No new jobs here even though Mexico could be a rival of Middle Eastern oil producing countries with huge reserves.

    · No access to capital for Mexican Entrepreneurs. Only three major banks as we know them in the entire country and all very conservative and risk-averse. In comparison to the U.S. which has many large banks and many regional banks, yet accounting for only 24% of financial assets in the U.S.; the three Mexican banks account for 55% of all financial assets in Mexico.

    · Household credit in Mexico is non-existent thus retail jobs are few and no new ones being created. The mortgage industry is also non-existent for the average Mexican Citizen; the U.S. has $8.2 Trillion in outstanding mortgages to $47 billion for Mexico to show the contrast.

It’s pretty simple. Mexico needs to make drastic changes in how the country is run politically and economically or it needs to become the next state of the United States so we can do this job for them. This will require tough talk from the President and the Congress. Short of this drastic action, our representatives in Washington need to do their job. They need to:

    · Put the Mexican Government on notice that they need to control the border between their country and the United States. They need to be made responsible for every illegal immigrant that comes across that border. American companies can show them how to get the oil out of the ground to pay for the illegal immigrants. We can send them an itemized bill.

    · Our representatives need to put the process in place to round up all illegal Aliens and jail them for breaking our laws while we go through the deportation procedures. And we need to deport every illegal Alien as the law requires.

    · We need to remove all Spanish and Spanish accommodation from this country by law. We should go back to the standards that European Immigrants had to meet by requiring all immigrants to learn American History, Political Structure and to speak a minimum of English to get by until they learn the language fully.

In short, and in my opinion, illegal immigration from Mexico is primarily the fault of Mexico, its government and its economic structure. The Mexican Government gets a big hand from our incompetent Congress who could not run anything that takes know-how, fortitude and resolve. If we make our resolve clear to Mexico and hold them responsible as any other country in the world would do, we will be well on our way to solving the illegal immigration problem.
