    The barber shop....

So apparently it is ok for a man or woman of Hispanic descent to go into any old Supercuts and get a haircut, not an issue with either the stylist/barber, or other customers.....

However, here is an interesting story on this idea.

One of my husbands co-employees, the few he supervises, legally here from Mexico, came into work the other say, and even with his customary cap he always wears, my husband could tell he got his hair cut. He said "Elisio, I see you got your ears lowered?", to which Elisio laughed and shrugged his shoulders. My husband explained what that meant.

Elisio laughed, he likes American phrases like that. So he removes his cap and reveals his haircut....noticably uneven in the back. So my husband said he then had to ask him, in order to avoid where he went, "hey, how much do you pay for your haircuts?", Elisio told him eight dollars. My husband said he thought good price, but, you get what you pay for, so queried about where it was, he told him it was a good price (but he said his motive was to avoid wherever he went due to the barbers work).

Elisio came back with "well, um, you know, it is just a little shop (as he is uncomfortably hemming and hawing), you now, they do not cut your hair". My husband asked what he was talking about, it was barber shop, sure they'd cut his hair, already though, he knew something was up about it, so he pressed for an answer.

This was Elisios final word on him getting his hair cut there, "well, you know they not doing gringo's hair cuts". "OH!" said my husband, as Elisio sort of apologetically shrugged and turned away. My husband said he seemed embarrased he had to admit this about his barber shop.

Nice......and we are the racist, zenophobic ones?

This would make a great sting story for the local news folks. Someone should get the name of the place and tip them off.

Perhaps they are not licensed barbers, and he didn't want someone who might notify authorities to know where it is.

Here in GA, we have had unlicensed doctors, pharmacies, dentists, taxicabs, restaurants, even selling snacks out of apartment "stores" - it seems that there are no limits to the number of services, unlicensed and illegal, that illegal aliens are involved in. When you break our laws knowingly to enter our country illegally, then drive to your job without a license, perhaps use a stolen identity to obtain that job, then that individual has less impetous to follow any laws, even to notify authorities of serious lawbreaking like selling drugs or child sexual abuse.

Or perhaps they do not cut gringos hair because gringos genrally do not go to the barrio to get their hair cut.

    Maybe that's what he meant.

We really do not have any actual enclaves here, yet, for Latino immigrants. Small pockets (maybe a few blocks linear at the most), but really nothing like other cities.

No, my husband knows him well, and he is an honest guy, and he meant it, these guys would not cut his hair. Unlicensensed? Good thought on that too, very likely.

The Chinese in my neighborhood will cut anybody's hair for $8 but this is NYC so they have little to worry about.

Oregons overall population is 3,790,060, of that it is estimated that our illegal alien population might be in around 300,000 spread across the state, though the census just asks about being Latino, and this is 11%, then it also asks about foreign born persons, but they could be legal immigrants too (as well as those who answered for Latino) which were 8.5%.

You also have to figure in that we have 95,996 square miles of land giving us 35.6 persons per square mile, to Californias 217.2. This gives us a lot of open spaces up here, most of it is fairly inhospitable to simply camping out and working (as happens in Southern CA I understand). Eastern Oregon is wide open spaces, not well connected, very rugged, overtly mountainous and really cold in the winter, jobs are also few over there. Main populations are in the western side, the wet side, and along the I-5 corridor. Even with all of that considered, the few places where it seems it is a "barrio" it is nothing compared to most places in SoCal.

I like Oregon the way it is. It keeps us with limited illegal alien populations, and leaves Oregon, to Oregonians (I know I sound like our old governor Tom McCall!!LOL).
