Immigration hard-liners hold fire on ‘dreamers’ program
Immigration hard-liners hold fire on ‘dreamers’ program
02/23/17 06:04 AM EST
Immigration hard-liners are holding their fire against President Trump's decision to keep an Obama administration program allowing young “dreamers” who entered the country illegally to remain.
Trump is generally clamping down on immigration enforcement, implementing policies that could cause a dramatic wave in deportations.
But he has explicitly avoided canceling President Obama’s Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which has allowed about 750,000 young people brought to the United States illegally as children to get permission to stay and work in this country.
The decision was a disappointment to groups who hoped to end the program.
“I’m very puzzled by the fact that he’s leaving DACA ... orders in place,” said Roy Beck, the founder of NumbersUSA, a group that wants to limit immigration to the United States.Conservative lawmakers who campaigned on tougher immigration policies say they want to hear more from Trump before jumping to conclusions.
“With all the fake news he is countering on a daily basis, I think he is just being pragmatic. And right now, I hope we can focus on ObamaCare repeal,” said Rep. Dave Brat (R-Va.), a Tea Party darling.
Brat said it’s possible more could be coming.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions “was finally put in place a couple weeks ago, so I think we have to be realistic,” he added. “I will wait to see how he addresses it. He is very big on keeping his word.”
Dan Stein, president of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, said leaving DACA untouched for the moment would give the administration leeway to negotiate immigration reform in the Senate “if you assume that Trump is interested in getting some legislative action from Congress.”
“They’re the negotiating tool,” he said.
Trump promised to end DACA on the campaign trail, but he has also spoken sympathetically of those who benefit from the program.
Last week, Trump said “DACA is a very, very difficult subject” that had to be dealt with with “heart.”
“You have these incredible kids, in many cases, not in all cases. In some of the cases they’re having DACA and they’re gang members and they’re drug dealers too,” he said. But you have some absolutely incredible kids ... they were brought here in such a way, it’s a very, very tough subject,” said Trump.
GOP leaders have also spoken positively about the program.
In January, Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) told an undocumented woman brought to the United States as a child that she would not face deportation.
“What we have to do is find a way to make sure that you can get right with the law. And we’ve got to do this so that the rug doesn’t get pulled out from under you and your family gets separated," said Ryan.
That said, it’s unclear if the administration is committed to keeping the program indefinitely.
Asked whether a decision on DACA could come any day, White House press secretary Sean Spicer on Tuesday said, “Yes, exactly.”
Activists are angry over the detention of Daniel Ramirez Medina, a dreamer in Seattle accused of having accepted gang membership. Ramirez's lawyer said he was pressured by federal agents “to falsely admit affiliation.”
Proponents of the program are worried that the Medina case is a sign of things to come.
Under DACA, recipients received a two-year renewable work permit. While the program remains in the books, new applicants would have to provide the federal government with personal information and an admission of being in the country illegally. One of the hurdles the program faced under Obama was getting applicants to trust that the information wouldn't be used against them.
Medina’s detention, as a result, could become an argument for not signing up for the program.
Opponents of DACA see it as a way of slowly killing off the program.
“It’s one thing to say that we’re not going to deport people who have received DACA documents, but it’s another to give out renewals,” said Beck.
“Letting it expire is different than immediately rescinding it,” said Stein. “There’s something to be said in a policy that allows a transition.”

Pay attention folks. This is all doublespeak because there is no intention of allowing those currently under DACA to become eligible for deportation. Saying it will expire in June is just a tactic to delay until the congress provides a legislative response to protect the DACA illegals. Sen. Graham and Sen. Durbin recently released a bill called The Bridge Act that would extend the DACA program beyond June. The Bridge Act is yet another delay tactic. The program will basically extend protection indefinitely until a bill with a path to citizenship is presented to the U.S. Congress. Supposedly Sen. Tillis is working on a new comprehensive immigration reform bill as we speak that will offer a path to citizenship for the DACA illegals.
Excerpt:
Their new bill would put DACA recipients into a new type of status, “provisional protected presence,” ― that they could extend for three-year terms ― beyond the two-year protections under DACA, Durbin said Friday on the Senate floor. It would not be constrained to only those who currently have DACA: eligible individuals who have not yet applied could be granted provisional protected presence as well, he said.
The Bridge Act should be later replaced with broader immigration reform, Durbin said.
They (the enemy) are lining their ducks up while we go round and round with this issue. This is why Trump needs to keep his promise and immediately end DACA. Folks, there are things happening behind enemy lines right now that are not being publicly discussed in-depth through the mainstream media. Ask yourself, why is that?
I'm starting to feel like Paul Revere, but I don't think anyone is listening.

That new bill introduced would not be limited to current enrollees (that is where all here before 2015 that obama catch & released comes in which was a good 12 yrs worth of sneakers crossing the border w/o a parent - "not brought here by a parent"). That will expand daca allowing more signers and then you have to wonder when they will sneak in dapa and their anchor babies. They are shooting for a general amnesty of @ 12 million - get rid of criminals and all the rest stay. Basically this is why gw & obama opened the border wide, allowed jobs, babies at our cost, schooling/healthcare. All of a sudden we didn't have any immigration laws. Disgraceful!
I have very little faith Trump will live up to his immigration campaign promises - he is not running the show alone, ryan & others have a lot to say that contradict Trump's promises and we are seeing resulting alternate decisions than the campaign promises. He is going to have "heart" for the dapa and anchor babies too. He would have a hard time removing all those born here already anyway and he better hurry up and do something to clarify birthright citizenship for the future. The wall might get built but he will soften on spoken mexico stances too - saw that with tillerson today. They won't force mexico to take back all the central americans mexico allowed to enter thru their country so we will see how they will be gotten rid of - that will not be easy either - all this "heart" will surface.Last edited by artist; 02-24-2017 at 12:05 PM.

I have a sinking feeling that MW and artist are right. What artist wrote is exactly what I'm thinking. The forces to legalize these people are strong. Why not end DAPA? Ending that would have no affect on the illegal population, since it wasn't implemented. If DACA isn't eliminated, then there's no way their parents and parents of citizens will be deported. Maybe a few here and there for show.
Trump seems to be wavering on his promises, which is unfortunate. Building the wall is not enough. I'm waiting and hoping for more "rule of law". Maybe Sessions will help.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Trump better surprise everyone and do it soon by ending DACA.
Trump needs to remember that he wasn't elected to roll-back transgender rights on the basis of "states rights" and then a second later tell "states rights" you can't grow pot. Trump needs to keep his eye on the ball and deport every single illegal alien out of the country including all DACAs.A Nation Without Borders Is Not A Nation - Ronald Reagan

If illegal aliens with children are allowed to stay , then the majority of illegals will be staying. Birthright citizenship is responsible for most of the costs associated with illegal immigration and the resulting rising Latino vote as they reach voting age.
Trump must not let the country down and enforce the law, as this may be our last chance to stop the invasion.

Trump has to keep his eye on the ball. How this administration has the time or legal comfort to repeal the Obama EO that provided federal guidelines for protecting transgender kids while they're in school but can't get its head out of its ass on how to end DACA is wearing thin.
Really thin.
Every day that goes by while DACA still exists, is another day that you weaken your base of support. Your margin of victory was only 80,000 votes in 3 blue states. So, we don't want to hear about "heart", we don't want to hear about "these incredible kids". We don't want to hear about removing guidelines that protected transgender kids while in public school while DACA directives remain intact. We don't want to hear about "crackdowns" on recreational pot while Kelly is in Mexico saying "oh no, there will be no mass deportations". Frankly, all of that makes you sound and look weak and stupid. SO STOP IT.
End. DACA. Now.
You may remember a Republican President who promised "read my lips, no new taxes", and he failed to deliver on that and approved new taxes. His name was George H. W. Bush, a 1 term President who through that broken promise lost his re-election and created the opening for the Clinton Crime Family to take over our government headed by Bill Clinton, who in spite of all the mess they brought with them, Bill Clinton remains one of America's most liked and successful Presidents.
Do not let people who aren't even supposed to be in our country who you said would be deported because you would end DACA Day One, become your "read my lips" issue that results in a 1 term Presidency.
I can tell you straight up, it won't matter if the Dow goes to 30,000, you create 25 million new jobs, grow the economy at 4% or more a year and pass the FairTax, if you don't end DACA, you will be a broken promise President and with Republicans, that means you're a 1 term President, fair or not, right or wrong, that's just the way it is.Last edited by Judy; 02-24-2017 at 04:23 AM.

I wonder if these types of angry comments are getting back to Trump. I hope the are. Didn't he say at his Melbourne rally that he kept his campaign promises. He seems to say one thing, while his aids say something else. I want them to start rounding up illegals and deporting them, so badly. They're still flocking across the border like nothing has changed. Extremely frustrating!!!!!!
