Immigration Reform is Dead - ILIR
I agree, I believe with JD Hayworth running and Scott Brown's win that it is dead for 2010!

Immigration reform is dead
Comprehensive immigration reform for 2010 and beyond is dead. There, I've said it. It is time to concentrate on alternative strategies. As the founder of the Irish Legal Immigration Reform Movement, a movement that took thousands of Irish to Capitol Hill to lobby for reform, it gives me no pleasure whatsoever to say this. I know first-hand of many Irish undocumented who live in fear that the knock on the door will come. They are very much in my thoughts as I write this. But the math does not lie. There is no chance in hell that a filibuster-proof majority exists in the U.S. Senate for most anything right now, let alone immigration reform.
The Senate is where American legislation goes to die. It might be possible to squeak a bill by the House, but there are more than enough anti-reform votes in the Senate to block any hope of passage. That will not change. For fifteen years or so, a great effort was undertaken to pass a comprehensive reform bill. It looked like the promised land when the Kennedy/McCain bill looked certain to gain passage in 2007, but a filibuster-proof majority never existed. Now, there are even fewer votes despite a Democratic majority. It is time to ditch comprehensive reform and focus on parts of immigration reform that can pass.
The Dream Act is one, which would allow undocumented people who were brought here as children to become legal. It is cruel and unusual punishment to deport such people who, through no fault of their own, were brought here often as infants, and have known no other life. Start by passing that, let's then look at what other areas we can address and adopt a piecemeal approach rather than a grand sweeping plan which has brought us nowhere. The definition of madness is that we continue to do the same thing over and over hoping for a different result. It is time to stop the madness. First, we must be honest and admit that there is no political future for comprehensive reform. Only then can we actually start to get legislation passed.

The DREAM Act is still the Trojan Horse for flooding our nation with more immigrants----the family members of DREAMers.

It is cruel and unusual punishment for American citizens to foot the bill for benefits to illegals.

Immigration Reform is Dead
I would love to say RIP to illegal immigration REWARDS. Frankly, anytime a liberal, pro-amnesty type talks about this issue being dead, i feel like something is going to happen soon. And it will not be good for American citizens.
Lets see what happens after the Million Mexican March in DC, March 21st. Lets especially be sure to get the names of all politicians who support this.
Can we find out who is funding the busses and expenses to transport thousands of illegal supporters to this march?

I don't believe it is dead, there are far too many traitors in both the house and senate. My rep, Dr. Tom Price, is meeting with "Hispanic groups" to try to get them to the Republican party. Dr. Price is probably the most conservative Republican in the house, yet does he meet with other race specific groups?
My two Senators, Isakson and Chambliss, helped craft the McCain/Kennedy amnesty. Both are rated conservative, except of course when it is for special interests.
GWB touted border security on a regular basis but did everything to undermine stopping the flow. Ramos and Compeon come to mind.
In order to get elected, whether Republican or Democrat, they seem to sell their soul. And they function quite well without it.

I agree. I think that the pro amnesty folks have cooked up a way to get amnesty while. as Obama put it "playing by the rules".

As the trade off for this amnesty, they will mandate E Verify to calm crtiics. But it will only be for new hires. so all the illegal parents gets to stay while they wait for their kids to make them legal.
In other words, they will be playing by the rules.
La Raza and the other Latino groups are oddly silent, and not critical of Obama's lack of push for immigration reform.
They are up to something.Take a stand or all there will be left to do is to ask the last person in the country we once called America to lower the flag one last time.

The main issue may be dead in the water, but what still out there, and what may be hidden in other legislation to come is what bothers me.
Politics is always about compromise. But when your nation and your people are compromised down the river, it is no longer compomise. It is insidious and destructive behavior.
