    The living will envy the dead , a world where every survivor dies from ass cancer within a few years after the crash is the most likely outcome )

    The very saddest reality in ALL of this has to do with the willful ignorance (being stupid on purpose), on the part of the VAST majority…and, it has always been this way.
    Comfort, a (false but REAL) sense of security, and abundance of THINGS, are the simple formula for creating an ignorant populace.
    Dave, you’re doing a wonderful job of educating, and thank you for that. This is a well formulated post, with admirable counsel.
    That said, I feel I must add another factor into the survival formula: The spiritual factor. You mentioned it, yes. BUT!
    This is a factor FAR GREATER than merely HOPING & PRAYING for a miracle or 3…This Nation was begun, and established on two principle Social pillars:
    #1] FEAR & OBEDIENCE & WORSHIP of the LIVING God, and reception of His son’s sacrifice, and of His Holy Spirit.
    #2] The development of a FREE MARKET Principle of business.
    Both of these pillars were weak & fragile in the beginning, and developed slowly over years, but, eventually, our Nation came to be respected, due to our general adherence to BOTH of these pillars of Culture. We were known as “A Beacon of LIGHT & FREEDOM”.
    Unfortunately, we, as a people, turned away from those principles and have, (over the last 50+ years), adopted aberrant behaviors and attitudes, and methodologies, (MUCH CLOSER to those of Imperial Rome and NAZI Germany, than to any other form of Government).
    And, even MORE unfortunate, is the UNDENIABLE REALITY that, ONCE a Nation claims, and boasts belief and faith in God, AND accepts it’s responsibility as a representative of God’s will and ways upon Earth…to then, later reject Him, ONLY LEAVES ONE ULTIMATE set of choices: Either REPENT, RETURN, BEG FORGIVENESS, CONFESS ERROR, and reestablish the relationship…or…suffer the consequences of refusing to do so.
    Well, Billy Graham, (for one), offered our Nation that first option…and…for awhile, it SEEMED that “we the people” choose that. But! In the tumultuous 60′s, it slowly began to change, and, by the egregious eighties, we had begun a THOROUGH reversal and rejection of our FAITH, and it’s value in our Society.
    Interestingly enough, during that time, ( the late 60′s and early 70′s), 200+ youth, in a caravan of 50 vehicles, traversed the Nation, (from NYC, to Boston, to Washington D.C., to Chicago, to Dallas & Houston, to L.A., to San Francisco), doing “SACKCLOTH VIGILS” — declaring to this Nation “THE MESSAGE OF JEREMIAH”…of coming judgement, due to our recalcitrant and wicked choices and actions…and NOW…we “…SHALL REAP WHAT WE HAVE SOWN”…
    Fortunately, (on the individual level), repentance is ALWAYS a VERY REAL open option, and the Lord of Love is ALWAYS standing with open arms, to forgive, and heal…On the National level, Ninevah’s choice is ALSO always an open option.
    So…all that to say: Return to your FIRST LOVE children! And THEN seek HIS ways to survive! And HE WILL NEVER LEAVE THEE NOR FORSAKE THEE! But, HE WILL try you in the balances, and hold you accountable. MENE MENE, TECKLE UFARSIN ….and Revelation 3:7 – 13 OR 14 – 21; (your choice).

    Good article. The first thing people need to realize is the need for water. All other thing are in important but secondary to this reality.

    Our family has been discussing these exact topics more and more over the past year or so. We too feel that the country could be in a position where either the economy collapses or where we are attacked with an EMP. We are admittedly not prepared. However, we are taking strides to start becoming prepared. If you had asked us about any of these different suggestions a year ago, we wouldn’t have the first clue. But today we’re looking at how we can start stocking up.
    Some of the more immediate things we’re considering is stocking of supplies like beans and other easily stored food items. We are planning on starting a garden. We’re considering what skills do we have that we could use to barter with other families in the area for things we don’t have. We’ve considered moving to another country. And we’re considering how to protect ourselves too. All these things are issues we didn’t think about before.
    I hope it doesn’t come to this, but if so we hope to be ready just in case. Thanks for the ideas and information.

    One major advantage to rural areas is that you’re more likely to find a like-minded community. And generally they own guns too.
