All you civic activists can now pressure your local employers to check the eligibility of prospective employees. Social Security numbers can now be verified by using the following toll free number: 1-800-772-6270. Up to 5 names can be verified over the phone and up to 50 by faxing a inquiry to your local Social Security office. It is all explained in a publication put out by Social Security- " Employer Reporting Instructions & Information. "

I have always thought this innocent because of ignorance used by employers was BS. They always claim that cannot help if someone uses false documents for employment.

Maybe it is different in Texas but our company (privately owned) ran SS# checks on all employees. Around thirty in the plant came back with some type of problem or another. These people were given 30 days (they do the work) to varify SS#, correct problem and validate correction. If they did not have this taken care of in the 30 days alotted they woulfd be terminated. 24 were terminated.

I asked the CEO about this and he said he had civic responsibilty as well as legal liablity to know who employees are. He said it was BS for companies to act as if they can't verify this stuff.

Cheap slave labor seems to be the reward for innocent by ignorance.

before even calling to verify can't they validate the ssn using a computer program? since dont ssns have place and year of birth in them?

usually with a verifier they give state and date if issuance.
