I was given the opportunity to take the Evelyn Wood speed reading course when young. Though I did not think at first that the scanning and rapid reading with some sense of comprehension worked, I did notice a real speed increase in my reading. Trying to have your eyes take in the pertinent information while quickly skimming down the page left me feeling clueless at first and questioning the program.

I knew it made a difference when people would ask me to read something. I would read it, hand it back, and they would think I merely looked at it. To reassure that I did read the requested information, I would tell them what it said.
