    KY needs your help!!

The local "Illegal alien group" - KCCIR is promoting "Advocacy Day" - basically a march on the state capitol, Feb 21st to harangue our legislatures. I challenge all Kentuckians to speak with their State representatives and let them know which current bills they support versus those supported by law breakers.

Please read the following promotion by KCCIR below and then read the current bills up for review. Please call your reps. ASAP. There are some REALLY GREAT bills out there, if only we show the proper support for them.

Kentucky Immigrants' and Refugees' Rights Advocacy Day - February 21, Frankfort.
Come to Frankfort on Wednesday February 21, 2007 and be a part of Kentucky’s first-ever Immigrant and Refugee Rights Advocacy Day! This is a unique opportunity for immigrants, refugees, advocates, and concerned individuals to speak to legislators about immigrant and refugee rights. Don’t be deterred if you have never approached your legislator about an issue you care about. Many participants will be in the same position, so you won’t be alone! Brief trainings will be offered throughout the morning for first-timers as well as for those who might need a refresher. Small groups of participants will advocate collectively on legislation of importance to immigrant and refugee communities.

Kentucky’s first-ever Immigrants' and Refugees' Rights Advocacy Day is an out-growth of a four-part workshop series designed by immigrant and refugee rights advocates to organize a collective voice in opposition of anti-immigrant legislation and in support of immigrant and refugee friendly legislation. Immigrants and refugees are a vital part of Kentucky, contributing to the diversity, cultural landscape, and the economic wellbeing of the state.

The day’s events will include an orientation training, lunch on your own or with your fellow advocates, visiting legislators to express your support of immigrant and refugee rights, and will culminate with a press conference in the rotunda of the Capitol. You can access printed information, more details, and register for the event on this page.

The Advocacy Day is been sponsored by the Kentucky Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, the Hispanic Latino Coalition of Louisville, Office of Kentucky Legal Services Program, Kentucky Youth Advocates, the American Civil Liberties Union of Kentucky, Community Action Council-Central Kentucky, and Ky Job with Justice. Organizers hope that participants will represent all areas of Kentucky. Although registration is not required to participate in this historic event, if you would like to register, or if you have any additional questions, contact Maria Ramirez at 502. 581.9746 or email her at 07KyLeg@kcirr.org.
    See you at the Capitol!

    Go KY!

Someone needs to get out there and video tape the march.

Remember, marching by them only raises American's awareness and resolve to stop them.

    blueinky,

Do you have any numbers of sponsors of the bills we can call to support, or email addresses, to help counter the marchers for those of us too far away to attend?

    Thanks!

In 2001 I was involved with an effort to bring in Ukrainian engineers under H-1b because the Kentucky Coal Association had announced a shortage of miners.

The engineering firm that I was working with had 20 underemployed engineers and access to thousands of rank and file coal miners. The Ukrainian coal mining industry is more labor intensive and it uses older equipment.

It turned out that there were plenty of experienced local coal miners who were doing other jobs within the community. The federal OSHA requirements also called for a higher level of English for any underground workers. The KCA was just using the Ukrainians as a threat to keep wages down.

There is a valid opportunity for the Ukrainian engineers in the above ground refurbishment and repair of older equipment. Above ground work pays less than work underground and the experienced Americans do follow the higher wages. The Ukrainians would be especially useful in refurbishing equipment for export that might otherwise be turned into scrap.

    There have been some recent
exposes regarding use of illegal aliens on maintenance of way crews and dog hole mines. I am against employment of illegal aliens.
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

These men could probably use a little cheer in this agricultural state. They are not taking the easy path.
