William Bentley, Voices of America President is now speaking.
A basic tenet of democracy for every child to not be shackled and be an unintended consequence of these raids.
We all care about OUR children. The challenge is to get people to care about ALL children. Even those that some may not recognize as being a member of our community.
Children of immigrant children who are living in the shadows. National and moral principles. Blah, blah, blah.

I just fired off an email to Sen. Sessions asking if it is possible to pass a rule in the senate that a speaker, when using the word "immigrant" must make a distinction between ILLEGAL immigrant and LEGAL immigrant.
This is a farce and an outrage. The senate is giving them a forum from which to spew their venom without taking an ounce of responsibility for their own actions. And from what I can tell there will be no opposing views?

Steve Joel, Grand Island School District (Nebraska) is now speaking.
The politics of these raids has left a lot of children "left behind."
He received a notice approximately 30 minutes prior to the raid. This is about kids. School is going to be a safe place.
The people from the raid work site pleaded with him to take care of the children. They made sure all the children knew that they cared for their safety and well-being.
People from the community called to give their support. They brought checks.
The trust that had been established with the Latino community was now suffering.

He hopes that they can recapture the trust that has been lost. Another sob story about a kid who kissed his parents goodbye that morning, only to lose them later.
All in the community were supportive because regardless of their stance on immigration, they care for innocent childen.
More about the Latino trust. He was hurt when a parent told him they could no longer trust them.
Lots of "white" students were upset because of the raids. A pregnant Latina student whose parents were detained didn't know what she was going to do.
Their mission is to teach every child. They don't know the long term impact on children who have to go into hiding.

He had to remind himself that they had to be the voice for the children. He is proud of the fact that the public school handled these raids so well.
Now going to live Senate coverage.

Why don't they put their money where their mouth is and help these people back to their home countries before the raids occur!!

You have to feel for the kids. They didn't break the law and are only pawns in the parents game. I'm not big on splitting families apart, but these parents need to be held accountable and the onus is on them. Somehow these newscasts are forgetting that the parents REALLY did break the law and that is the reason the kids are going to suffer.
The parents need to be checked for fake social security numbers, falsified documents, failure to pay taxes, etc. And they need to be punished just like I would as a U.S. citizen instead of getting a free pass.<div>"You know your country is dying when you have to make a distinction between what is moral and ethical, and what is legal." -- John De Armond</div>

I can't believe that LaRaza is being given this forum for these sob stories on the floor of the US Senate. Isn't there more pressing business concerning American Citizens for the Senate besides this. Unbelievable!
