La Raza Rebrands as 'Unidos US'
La Raza Rebrands as ‘Unidos US’
July 10, 2017
Alex Clark
The National Council of La Raza announced that it will change its name to UnidosUs, AP reports.
President Janet Murguia described “La Raza” as an outdated term that did not resonate with its members. AP exclusively translates “Raza” as “the people” in its report. However, the term can also be interpreted as “the race,” which carries a suggestion of zero-sum ethnic conflict. According to the AP:
AP exclusively translates “Raza” as “the people” in its report. However, the term can also be interpreted as “the race,” which carries a suggestion of zero-sum ethnic conflict. According to the AP:
Literally translated, “raza” means “race,” but that is not the definition of the word. The term for “the people” was coined to describe the various races Mexican people come from. Chicano civil rights activists popularized it in the 1960s and 1970s and it’s faced backlash today. The new term translates to “United us,” or “United States United.”
Murguia claimed the name change was not in response to conservative criticism but said it is intended to mobilize the Latino community in response to perceived anti-Latino racism from the administration.
“I think this is viewed as an opportunity and we see it as an opportunity to strengthen our or organization, broaden our reach and expand our growth … And that’s going to be important as we see the challenges that we’re facing at this particular time,” she told AP.

Better yet, "Unidos Mexico, Central America" ON THEIR TURF. unidos US is a con tag - illegals cannot be in the US, they have no papers, so unite elsewhere. US is not your territory to unite on unless you have documents to be here.

La Raza changes its name
July 18, 2017
By Silvio Canto, Jr.
My friend Mike Gonzalez wrote a great post over at the Wall Street Journal. He confirmed a lot of what I've felt about or heard from many Hispanics about "La Raza":
Since its inception in 1968, made possible in part by a grant from the Ford Foundation, La Raza has been far more dependent on boardrooms and government than grass-roots support. But with government largess drying up, the liberal political-advocacy group may find itself needing greater support from the rank and file.
This won't be easy.
The nation's "Hispanics" are undergoing a radical shift that most politicians are missing: A white majority is likely to persist in America.
"Many children growing up today in mixed families are integrating into a still largely white mainstream society," sociologist Richard Alba noted in American Prospect last year. These children are "likely to think of themselves as part of that mainstream, rather than as minorities excluded from it."
The name La Raza – "the race" in Spanish – flies in the face of this reality. It is off-putting to many "Hispanics," an artificial Census category comprising many razas.
The organization's CEO, Janet Murguia, admitted as much in a video announcing the name change: "We must make sure that our name and our organization evolves along with and remains relevant to our ever changing Hispanic community."
Appealing to a broader swath of this diverse group is necessary now that the "fat years" under President Obama are gone.
Yes, La Raza is nothing but a front for left-wing Democrat politics. They stand with the Democratic Party on school reform and just about everything else. Do you remember the last time La Raza challenged an Obama policy?
"La Raza de Bronce" (The Bronze Race) by Armando Maynez
My own experience is that its members were generally well educated liberals, or people a lot more concerned with hanging around with other well educated liberals rather than walking the Hispanic streets talking to people about real-world issues. Again, I debated many of them over the years and they were nothing but mouthpieces for the left, funded by large corporations hoping to avoid "racism" accusations.
Goodbye "La Raza." Hello, "Unidos US." We wish you well, but you will need to diversify from your liberal orthodoxy before you expand in the changing Hispanic world.

Sorry, but "La Raza" translates by Google as "The Race" and nothing else. Of course the "Reconquistas" are not the first to make quack pronouncements about race and "the people", so did the Nazis.
