    Labor Secretary Hilda Solis Resigns

Labor Secretary Hilda Solis Announces Her Resignation : The Two-Way : NPR

Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis is resigning, opening up one more slot in President Obama's second-term administration. A former member of Congress, Solis was the first Hispanic woman to head a Cabinet-level agency.

"This afternoon, I submitted my resignation to President Obama," she wrote in a letter to her agency's employees. "Growing up in a large Mexican-American family in La Puente, California, I never imagined that I would have the opportunity to serve in a president's Cabinet, let alone in the service of such an incredible leader.
Solis said that in the future, she plans to return to California...

Sec of Labor: Immigration reform is an economic imperative

Hilda Solis likes to point out that so many companies were formed by immigrants and this is true. But the people she speaks of came through legal means.

The argument that immigrants create jobs may be true, but any worker would naturally contribute to other jobs. There would be few differences in job-effects between a citizen and a foreign national having a job except the matter of nationality. Forgive a bit of nationalism but Americans should get the first chance at a job in this country. Citizenship should have some privileges.

Importing more people to replace American workers is not going to create more jobs as much as activists like Ms. Solis say. It will cause Americans to have to compete with cheaper foreign labor being brought in and put many more Americans out of jobs.

She has made agreements with many Latin countries to protect the rights of their citizens in this nation whether they are here with permission or not. Encouraging such unfair competition is not what might be expected of the Secretary of Labor.

Her job title suggests that she should worry about helping American citizens with getting employed. Instead her writings and actions suggest that she is more loyal to Ethnic Solidarity than to this nation. (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/rep-hilda ... 23933.html?)

At the very least Hilda Solis is in the wrong agency. In Labor she is supposed to be working for the good of ALL citizens of the United States.

She is not supposed to be discriminating in favor of her race or citizens of foreign lands. The "melting pot" means assimilation but it seems to people like Ms. Solis that is a dirty word.

The Department of Labor should not be promoting importing foreign workers in a Depression. They especially have no business making agreements to protect illegal foreigner's rights over American citizens.

    Labor Secretary Hilda Solis resigns

U.S. Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis has announced that she will resign.

“Over her long career in public service — as an advocate for environmental justice in California, state legislator, member of Congress and Secretary of Labor — Hilda Solis has been a tireless champion for working families. Over the last four years, Secretary Solis has been a critical member of my economic team as we have worked to recover from the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression and strengthen the economy for the middle class,” President Obama said in a statement Wednesday.

“Her efforts have helped train workers for the jobs of the future, protect workers’ health and safety and put millions of Americans back to work. I am grateful to Secretary Solis for her steadfast commitment and service not only to the Administration, but on behalf of the American people. I wish her all the best in her future endeavors,” Obama said.

Solis’ resignation comes in the immediate wake of numerous scandals involving the National Labor Relations Board, which has been hampered by criticism of staunch pro-union bias and ethical violations.

The Obama administration faced a number of high-profile setbacks this year with regard to labor issues. The unsuccessful attempt, by pro-union activists, to recall Republican Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and Michigan governor Rick Snyder’s signing of his state’s right-to-work bill both caused national political embarrassment for the administration’s pro-union agenda.

Solis came to the Labor Department in 2009 after four terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, where she represented California’s 32nd Congressional District.

It is unclear at this time what Solis will pursue next in her career.
