Landlord renting to illegals in NJ

Would anyone here know if I could take a landlord to court who rents to illegals in NJ? Would I have any success?

    Guessing

I am not a lawyer, judge or real estate specialist of any kind.

If the tenants are violating some other law-sanitation, occupancy limits, creating a public disturbance, something like that. You may be able to get him on health/building code violations.

    Usually

Usually when someone rents to Illegals they pile them in the house by the dozens. This, of course, is against the law..
Definately call the township at least and inform them of the over crowded house (if thats the case)
Look for anything else on the property that may be in violation of township codes.
You can also try and speak with the owner and inform him that you know he is housing many Illegals and that you plan to turn him in within 7 to 10 days...
There are other things you can do as well..

if you have any proof of over-occupancy, PLEASE tell someone.
there was a townhouse here in annapolis rented by illegals. there were 8 adults living in a 1-bedroom house. they kept a pot of oil on low all day every day for cooking. (found this out thru the insurance company i work for). well, it overheated, caught fire, and destroyed 3 other townhomes. too many people in one small space is not only a zoning violation, it's an accident waiting to happen. report it.

Having lived in a town that was sued by illegal aliens when said town tried to enforce the over-crowding laws, here's what I learned. The illegals won by playing the race card. The reason? Some moronic yahoos posted ethnic slurs on a public forum, which the illegals then based a large part of their case on.

Were they violating health code laws? Heck yes they were, but that was all ignored.

    1. DOCUMENT everything! Take pictures of anything you can that will help your case.

    2. Do NOT insert race/ethnicity into it. It's irrelevent.

    3. Check zoning of the house, is it single family or multi-family? Are there a large number of cars in the driveway? Do you see the same people leaving for work in the morning, coming home late at night? Are there alot of children? Document all.

There's nothing in NJ law prohibiting renting to illegal aliens, therefore; this would be multiple health code violations.

Basement apartments in flood areas in NJ are prohibited, so pictures of beds in a basement would cement your case. Attic apartments are also banned.

    4. If you town council/mayor/police/code officers refuse to do anything, call your county health department or children's services.

I would think that by simply by taking the landlord to court would force him to remove the illegal aliens based on the federal law agains harboring and aiding and abetting them, regardless of any state laws on the books or not.
