Los Mets?????? Say It Aint So!!

I am a HUGH NY Mets fan and have been for the majority of my life. For those of you who may not understand, we North Easterners take our baseball teams very seriously. I rarely miss a braodcast but for the first time in my life, I don't think I can stomach watching this Friday's game:

Players to Wear "Los Mets" Jerseys in Celebration of "Fiesta Latina"

FLUSHING, N.Y., August 20th, 2007 – The New York Mets and Vidal Cedeño Management today announced that music superstars Oscar D'Leon and Luis Vargas will perform at "Fiesta Latina" this Friday, Aug. 24 at Shea Stadium following the Mets' 7:10 p.m. game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

To commemorate "Fiesta Latina" the Mets for the first time in team history will don jerseys with "Los Mets" across their chests.

The Mets have these different ethnic nights all summer - Italian, Polish, Jewish, Asian, etc. I think it's great. But if you're going to do this, you should have jeerseys printed in the other languages as well. I think Omar Manya is a great GM but he does cater to his own people. There's no doubt about it!

I know in the greater scheme of things, this is a minor complaint. But I just needed to vent! Thanks!

I never knew that Baseball was another job Americans won't do???
I guess its easy to sell out America's culture and pastime to other nations interests... Baseball ain't baseball anymore anyway! There all imported players from Japan, Cuba, Mexico, god knows where else?

I don't follow baseball but I do know names of some of the big player though... Sounds like the Federal most wanted list...

They will have Kansas City soon! It will be the NAFTA port of entry owned and operated by Mexico, but built on the American tax dollar!!!

It's just really disrespectful. Seriously... the nerve.

About 3 years back when the Mets were rebuilding, GM Omar Minaya seemed to be assembling mostly Latin players. Don't get me wrong. The team he assembled is great and all the Latin players appear to be really decent guys. I love my team!

But there were a lot of complaints about that here in NY. My brother in law didn't care. Just as long as they're winning he said! But I pointed out to him that the Mets are an American team, and that the majority of players should be Americans - NOT foreigners. Can you imagine if the Mexican baseball team had more American players than their own? The fans would be rioting in the streets!

I find a lot of hypocracy. For an example - When Sosa and McGuire were on that homerun race (before we really knew about steroids), a co-worker who had a Latin girlfriend asked me who I was rooting for. I said McGuire. He then made some sort of sarcastic remark that I was being racist or something. So I said to him, I root for an American and I'm considered racist, but your Latin girlfriend roots for a Latin player and she's being what..... loyal??

You're right. The sad truth is that baseball is a business like any other, and they are outsourcing as well. The Mets recently sent a group over to Africa to start a baseball camp to teach and recruit players. What makes this really pathetic is that African American kids are playing less baseball and there's been a tremedous shortage of black players. Why doesn't MLB donate the time and money to recruit black American kids who live in the inner cities??

If you look at baseball through the decades, it always seemed to be a reflection of what was happening in America at the time. With all the outsourcing and foreign ownership going on in our country today, I guess I shouldn't really be surprised about what's happening to my favorite pastime.

I am a huge baseball fan. Every year I watch the College World Series and I wonder why do we have scouts go all over the world to scout? In my opinion, American baseball players have been given the back seat to every other country. Why not give American hs and college kids the first shot? I am not saying to take kids who don't play well, but it seems to me there are as many good American kids playing baseball as there are around the world. Just my 2 cents.

Major League Baseball is a business, nothing more. If they think that by throwing on "Los Mets" jerseys that they can make illegals support their team and buy their stuff then they'll do it. They're wasting their time though, illegals are into their country's soccer teams not American baseball.

The vast majority of the Mets fan base is American. You just have to make them think they'll lose money by pulling this kind of crap.

If I were the Commissioner of MLB my first edict would be ordering Ozzie Guillen deported back to Venezuela.
