    How Minutemen outshine the city

    This was an reader's letter that our newspaper actually printed.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~
    How Minutemen outshine the city
    So the Union-Tribune gloats about the financial difficulties of several of the “vigilante bands” otherwise known as Minuteman groups (“Minuteman woes,” Editorial, March 19). You find it “hard to imagine that there are people out there gullible enough to open their wallets and blindly hand over three-quarters of a million dollars to a group that seems to have little accountability and no way of keeping track of how much money is coming in or going out, and for what purpose.” I feel the same way about the city of San Diego.
    The audit was finally completed for 2003, the city has no credit rating, the City Council and employee unions have contrived to bankrupt San Diego with ludicrous pension benefits, and the city infrastructure is falling apart.
    At least the Minuteman supporters believe we are protecting the country, not raping it. And to ignorantly claim that the job of stopping illegal immigration is Bush's and Congress' is dreaming. Mexico and its drug dealers have been running our government for years. Spend some time at the border with us and see how easy it would be to stop illegal immigration and drug smuggling. Those in charge don't want it stopped.
    Geez, couldn't the same be said of the gullible American citizen that is pouring millions-billions of tax dollars into illegal alien programs?
    Or how much we are forced to pay for ineffective leadership? We've been getting fleeced for years so some arrogent jerk can push a certain agenda that has nothing to do with you personnally, unless you fit the mold.
    Since when has Washinton been made to show it's monetary records to the people to prove our hard earned dollars have been put to good use?
