    They're Brainwashing Our Children

I was reading over my 8 yr. old's homework paper and decided to share it with other Americans. I do not see any message in this for Juan to learn English.

    Dear Diary,

Today my kitten, Gatito, jumped out of my arms and chased a mouse into the street. My cousin, Juan, was riding his bicycle down the street. He was heading straight for Gatito. "John ! Stop!", I yelled. Juan did not stop, because he did not understand English. Then I yelled, "Juan ! Pare !"
Just in time, Juan turned his bike to the right. "Rosa, at first I didn't know you were talking to me," Juan said to me in Spanish. I am lucky that I speak Spanish and English.

Here is the main question which follows the paragragh and here is the tip which they give to the student:

(TIP: Think about what happens in the story. How are the Spanish words used to solve Rosa's problem ?)

    1. Why does Juan keep riding, even after Rosa shouts out to him?

    A. She speaks English, but Gatito understands only Spanish.

    B. Rosa speaks to Juan in English, and Juan understands only Spanish.

    C. She speaks Spanish, but Juan speaks English.

    D. Gatito speaks Spanish, and Juan speaks Spanish.

To me they are just using this "English" lesson to manipulate the American child's way of thinking. They can fool the American children, but they can't fool the American parents. We get the message, loud and clear.

Im thinking of adding a 5th choice for another possible answer and it would be this:

    E. Juan's parents decided to move to America, although they may have come illegally, we will hope that they came here in accordance with the laws of the United States. Juan is now in America and he needs to learn English so that he can learn to understand what people are saying to him.

    Totally OUTRAGEOUS!!

OMIGOD....think of all the pets that only know Spanish.

Good Grief....I'd not even thought of that debacle.

For their safety, I suppose the animals will need to beome bi-lingual as well until we get these people out of our country.

Oh y'all, Judy brings up a good point!

We'll have to provide all the non-English speaking pets with tutors...do you think...as well as their owners? Plus interpreters in the vets offices with free medical care? Right?

After we did that homework page .....we moved on to reading. My third grader excitedly ran to get the book she had checked out of the school library earlier in the day. She was about twenty pages into it. We picked up where she had left off.

I'm listening to her read and about one minute into listening she reads, "This summer is going to suck." Lilly B. on the brink of Cool, pg. 20. I said, "What?" She said, "Is that a bad word, Mommy ?" I said...."It's certainly not a good word, especially for a third grader." I took the book and did a quick scan and immediately found this on pg. 217:
"I'm sure your parents have been feeding you a lot of sanctimonious and small-minded crap about me."

Quite obviously this book doesn't belong in the area of the school library where third graders choose their books. I guess this is a middle school age book. Elementary schools only go to the fifth grade here, and Im thinking that even a fifth grader would be better off not reading words of that nature. So, I'm trying to figure out if I should bring it to the teacher's attention or to the principal's attention. Of course, I will be nice about it...but between the homework page putting pressure on elementary kids to learn how to speak Spanish in an English lesson and this.....I'm concerned.

Maybe they should quit trying to make American kids feel guilty and inadequate because most of them cannot "accomodate" our newcomers to America in Spanish while many of the newcomers are too lazy or stubborn to learn English. Maybe they should stop this ......and start paying attention to the books they are making available to American children. Any suggestions ?

I'm all for bilingual, mutli-lingual....but there are other important and good languages to learn, Spanish isn't the only choice. Teach them English in English class, please. And watch the content of the books !!

I'm sure glad I don't have any children. Because if I did, they'd be home-schooled.

    Legal,

You have every right to be concerned. I'd, gently, politely start with the teacher, and the principal. A lot of the outcome will be determined by what kind of principal you have. I'd also let them know that you wish to speak to the librarian. Then depending on what happens (and here's where you can get labeled a 'troublemaker'), I'd go to the school board and the press. This book, IMO, is teaching kids to put down parents and parental authority, which is, of course, the NEA's position. See communists planks on overthrowing us.

My daughter, has been working on just a 2 hr. preschool situation to get my grandson ready for the idea of school. She's already gotten the message, that although he's smart (oh..soooo smart), he thinks for himself too much. She's looked down on, for having been a stay-at-home mom. She came back from one meeting, spitting mad, saying that the distinct impression she was given, is that they want children who have been in daycare since birth, because they are compliant, and have NO self-direction. SHEEPLE. Scares me for him.

I've started suggesting home schooling. I'd help.

Start nice and work up! That's my motto!
