    Letter from Rep. John Carter

Thank you for contacting me to express your views on the immigration policy of the United States . I appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns on this important issue.

In Congress, I have consistently advocated for an immigration policy that supports first enforcing existing immigration laws and protecting our borders. Many estimate that one thousand immigrants cross the U.S . / Mexico border every night. Stopping this tidal wave of illegal immigrants coming over the border must be our first priority. You will be happy to know I have co-sponsored H. Res. 351, which calls on the federal authorities to strengthen and vigorously enforce all existing immigration laws.

In addition, I remain strongly opposed to any sort of amnesty program. I do not believe that illegal immigrants should be rewarded for breaking our laws, while millions of law abiding immigrants are waiting in line to become American citizens. If you reward illegal immigrants with citizenship, that is amnesty, simply put. Recently, a comprehensive immigration bill was brought before the Senate that included a pathway for illegal immigrants to become citizens. Rest assured that I will strongly oppose any legislation that advocates for illegal immigrants to receive amnesty.

In the 110th Congress I will once again serve as a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security. This will allow me to play an active role in decisions related to the funding for Customs and Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement. I will also be able to monitor the Department's budget requests to ensure that border security and immigration initiatives receive the support they deserve.

Again, thank you for contacting me. As immigration reform is discussed, I will continue to support measures that are in the best interest of Central Texas . If I can be of any further assistance to you in the future, please do not hesitate to contact me.

    Member of Congress

This letter was the usual form letter. The unusual thing and it doesn't show up when I copied it - but in the first paragraph where it states 'the immigration policy of the United States' there is actually a blank and the United States was filled in.

Also, where it states 'Recently, a comprehensive immigration bill was brought before the Senate', there was a blank where 'comprehensive immigration' was filled in.

The same thing where he mentions being on the Homeland Security committee.

What is with these 'fill in the blanks'?

Maybe they have form letters for pro-amnesty/pro-illegal voters and other form letters for anti-amnesty/anti-illegal voters.
