Illegal immigrants cost taxpayers too much!!

I wanted to leave a comment about some information I found doing a research paper on poverty.

Hispanics are having the most trouble leaving welfare and with the education and employment problems, it seems like the rate of Hispanics on welfare will continue to increase. In 2003, 44% of Hispanics did not know how to speak or read English well enough to complete everyday tasks. Immigration increases burdens on other state and government agencies.

In 2002, Office of Management and Budget had to implement Executive Order 13166, which require agencies receiving federal funds to serve people who do not speak English. The expected annual cost for hospitals is $268 million, $8.5 million for state departments of motor vehicles, and $25.2 million for language services for food stamp recipients.

Low-skilled immigrants pay little in taxes and collect high government benefits. The National Academy of Sciences estimates each immigrant without a high school degree will cost U.S. taxpayers an average of $89,000 over his/her lifetime.

Americans need to stand together and protest along with illegal immigrants, as rallies are going on nationwide.

    Hi Kristi2108. Welcome.

    Great information.

I'm sure we'll be able to use it against the invasion. Why didn't you include the cost of education, jails, housing, etc?

Just goes to prove this "cheap labor" is only cheap to the scumbags who hire them.

Kristi there is a difference between illegal immigrants and "Hispanics" or "Low - Skilled" immigrants.
That difference is this: Illegal immigrants are criminals.
Why should American Citizens stand WITH criminals?
These criminals, and the employers who hire them, are what is actually making it harder for people in those low wage income brackets to actually do better.

    Welcome Kristi.

While I'd like to engage you on this topic, it should be pointed out that here, at least, we draw a distinction between illegal immigration vs. legal immigration. While most immigrants, and even illegal immigrants, are 'Hispanic', the issue is not one of ethnicity - it is one of legal status ultimately.

The numbers you cite are dwarfed by very conservative estimates of the cost to my rather mid-sized state alone. From 6 year old estimates, factoring in the costs of education in addition to the ones you listed.. my state (OR) spends upward of $500 million annually to support illegals (education, law-enforcement, health, etc)

Also, the necessity of learning and mastering English is a strong factor in success in the US economy. So learning it is important and instead of finding reasons not to, smart people would embark on a path to learn it as soon as possible.

I have to admit I am unsure of what you mean exactly in the following statement:

Americans need to stand together and protest along with illegal immigrants, as rallies are going on nationwide.
