Local woman’s desire to help other immigrants is rewarded

Local woman’s desire to help other immigrants is rewarded

On Tuesday, President Barack Obama will visit El Paso, Texas, where he will discuss border security and the need for Congress to address immigration quandaries.

Guess which local newspaper will have a close angle?

Dos Mundos, a 30-year-old bilingual paper that began in the Overland Park basement of Clara Reyes, might have a reporter nearby.

The paper recently expanded with editions in Topeka and Odessa, Texas. Reports from those areas will be forwarded here, formatted and then sent back.
****The new arrangement is one more reason why the Mexican consul in Kansas City honored Reyes last week with the Ohtli Award, given to “individuals whose efforts have significantly contributed to the well-being, prosperity and advancement of the Mexican communities abroad.â€

She is NOT the typical immigrant who comes to Georgia. They are illiterate in their native language, they are not trained in any career or profession in their native country, they have many children they cannot afford, and seek immediate help from welfare, food stamps, Section 8 and pay no taxes on income. They start businesses that have no licenses and do not pay sales taxes or income taxes on their income. Their children are not hard working but frequently engage in criminal and gang activities, which are brought to our formerly nice suburban communities.

This lady did not need help when she arrived and obviously became a legal citizen. We would welcome many more like her, except they are more like the typical illegal immigrant we have in Georgia.

Basically, it is legal versus illegal, and she used her skills and training to encourage criminal invaders instead of giving back to our country. We are becoming a third world country and the educated and advantaged caste from those countries are comfortable with "helping" us fall into that abyss.

The smallest things can befuddle, especially as people are learning English. How to get utilities turned on, how to find a doctor or a lawyer, day-to-day issues.
OMG! How many people get their utilities turned on or see a Dr or lawyer on a regular basis? These are NOT day to day issues!
