Lou Dobbs Tonight
Thursday, March 8, 2007

Join Lou for an hour of news, debate and opinion. House
Democrats launch their greatest contest so far against the Bush
administration’s Iraq war. Will this undermine the new
commander in Iraq, General Petraeus?

While middle class Americans struggle every month to make ends
meet, CEO’s are taking home big money…and it has some members
of Congress outraged. The Chairman of the House Committee on
Financial Services, Rep. Barney Frank is holding hearings to
investigate whether company shareholders need to step in and
have a say in executive pay. Frank and 21 fellow Democrats
recently introduced a bill that would give shareholders control
over executive compensation. We’ll have a full report.

The Bush administration is facing tough questions from Congress
over its plans to open the U.S. – Mexican border to long-haul
transnational trucking. Mexican trucks are currently restricted
to a 25 mile zone into the United States. But the Bush
administration wants to abolish that restriction, allowing
Mexican trucks free reign on U.S. soil, raising both safety and
security concerns. The Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on
Transportation is holding a hearing to investigate whether the
Bush administration's plan is safe for America. We’ll have a
special report.

When soldiers return home from battle, for some, another battle
begins. Not only do horrific injuries make it difficult to
return to society, but so does the experience of death and
destruction. Join us tonight for a special report on why some
soldiers turn to substance abuse to deal with the wounds of
war.

For a fifth straight year, the Bush administration is proposing
to eliminate funding for the State Criminal Alien Assistance
Program (SCAAP). The program helps reimburse state and local
governments for the incarceration of criminal illegal aliens.
Congress appropriated $661 million for SCAAP this year, with
California receiving nearly 40% of the funds. While California
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger argues that we need to continue
funding the program, other elected officials criticize the
proposal. We’ll have a full report.

We'll be joined by former Secretary of Education Rod Paige. He
is the author of a new book, "The War Against Hope." He says to
fix our public education system, we have to significantly
change the way our schools and school systems operate.
