Majority: IRS blunders grounds for impeachment

Americans also cite Obama czars, NSA spying, 'recess' appointments

Editor’s note: This is another in a series of “WND/WENZEL POLLS” conducted exclusively for WND by the public-opinion research and media consulting company Wenzel Strategies.

Let’s see, under Barack Obama the IRS targeted conservatives and Christians with harassment, dozens of “czars” were appointed, Arizona was sued for trying to enforce federal immigration laws, the government refused to enforce the Defense of Marriage Act and the National Security Agency spied on Americans.

No wonder more conservative Americans already have been wondering why Obama is allowed to get away with such antics and whether impeachment might not be the solution the Founders ordered.

But now the worry is spreading, with a new poll showing most American voters believe there are multiple grounds for Obama’s impeachment.

The national telephone survey of registered voters by Wenzel Strategies was done Aug. 23-28 with a margin of error of 3.67 percentage points.

Hear Aaron Klein read an excerpt from his new book presenting the blueprint for Obama’s impeachment, “Impeachable Offenses.”

It has been revealed that under Obama’s watch, the Internal Revenue Service targeted conservatives with harassment that curbed their influence during the 2012 election, which Obama won.

Asked whether Obama should be impeached for the IRS abuses, more than 55 percent said they yes, including 1 in 4 Democrats. More than 8 in 10 Republicans agreed, as well as half of the independents.

Pollster Fritz Wenzel explained to WND: “A strong majority of 55 percent said Obama should be impeached for the behavior of his Internal Revenue Service and its treatment of conservative groups seeking non-profit status, and for its aggressive auditing of conservative and religious organizations. Just 38 percent opposed impeachment, making this the most toxic of all current scandals now facing the White House.”

He continued: “There’s no doubt because almost everyone in America has had a personal interaction with the IRS and it is among the most feared of government agencies, because of its enforcement powers. Abuse of this agency for political purposes has occurred before, but never to the extent apparently perpetrated by the Obama administration.”

He said not tested in the question was the apparent sharing of tax return information by the IRS with other federal agencies.

But one could reasonably conclude that with every layer of IRS abuse, the finding would likely get worse,” he said. “Also not tested in this question is Obama’s characterization of this as a ‘phony scandal,’ but respondents may well have factored that in to their reaction to the question.

Read the details about Obama’s actions and how they align with the Constitution, or not, in “Impeachable Offenses,” by Aaron Klein and Brenda J.Elliott.

“There is nothing phony about an audit letter from the IRS arriving in your mailbox, and many Americans may now wonder whether that letter is arriving because of their political activities and contributions to conservative groups or candidates. This finding of a majority favoring impeachment reflects the chilling and outrageous nature of co-opting a powerful federal agency for political gain.”

Likewise, more than 52 percent said Obama should be impeached for his oversight of the NSA, which has been revealed to be monitoring the emails, Internet browsing and phone calls of millions of Americans.

More than 20.6 percent of the Democrats, nearly 41 percent of independents and 60 percent of the Republicans were in agreement.

Wenzel explained: “There is outrage that the National Security Agency has been spying on Americans online, and on the phone, this survey finding shows. A majority of 52 percent said Obama deserves to be impeached for his leadership on this issue, while 41 percent said they disagreed.

“Remember here that this question asks whether the president deserves the most severe political punishment available to inflict on Obama – impeachment – and it elicits a majority in favor of that punishment. There have been other issues that have stirred the visceral anger of the nation, but this is a powerful finding because so many Americans have come to rely on email, the Internet, and their cell phones in daily life,” he said.

“That the government could – and perhaps would – intercept those communications, store them, and perhaps come back to them years later to use them against us, in complete contravention of the U.S. Constitution, warrants such outrage.”

About the same total – 53 percent – believe impeachment is appropriate for his behavior regarding Arizona’s attempts to enforce federal immigration laws.

“Not only has Obama’s recent campaign push to pass a massive immigration bill legalizing many millions of illegal immigrants fizzled, a majority of Americans say he should be impeached for his fight against Arizona over immigration and his administration’s willingness to overlook the willful violation of federal immigration law by so-called sanctuary cities,” Wenzel told WND.

“Earlier this year, this issue had promised to become the Obama administration’s second-term big win as health care reform was in his first term, but this poll finding shows Republicans were right to battle against it. This also shows that, just as in 2007, Sen. John McCain of Arizona was completely wrong in reading public sentiment on this question.

“Americans have an inherent sense of fair play and want everyone to obey the law, and the public has reached the conclusion that the current immigration reform proposals simply do not pass muster. The findings on this question in this survey mirror those findings six months ago, as 53 percent said Obama should be impeached for his handling of these immigration issues, which is up slightly from 51 percent six months ago,” Wenzel said.

Be sure to check out all the impeachment-related products in WND’s Impeachment Store!

“The sentiment for impeachment was a bit less intense on a related question on immigration, as 46 percent said Obama should be impeached for issuing an executive order blocking the deportation of illegal immigrants who came to this country as children, even though Congress has not sanctioned such treatment of these illegal immigrants. It is my thought that some of this pro-impeachment sentiment stems from Obama’s refusal to follow established law and some from his willingness to side-step Congress to rule the nation,” Wenzel said.

Then there are the omnipresent “czars” Obama appointed.

“There remains strong resistance to Obama’s installation of people to lead federal agencies without proper Senate confirmation, as 58 percent said they disagreed with his refusal to obtain the Senate’s approval of his appointees, about the same as our survey six months ago,” Wenzel said.

“What is remarkable is that there has been a significant upward tick in the percentage of respondents who said Obama should be impeached for ignoring the constitutional requirement of Senate confirmation, as 49 percent said he should be impeached for such actions. This is up from 43 percent who said the same thing in March,” Wenzel said.

“Respondents are similarly angry with the on-going existence of the so-called ‘czars’ that Obama has installed at key agencies in the federal government, without Senate confirmation or congressional oversight. A majority – 54 percent – said Obama should be impeached for his appointment and maintenance of these leaders, what one could rightly refer to as a shadow government. Even Democrats are uncomfortable with this arrangement, as 30 percent of Dems said they believe this is an impeachable offense – a pretty powerful argument against it,” Wenzel said.

An underlying trend throughout the Obama administration has been to withhold information, even from Congress.

    People resent that, Wenzel said.

“This is another one of those little-noticed issues that only insiders really pay attention to, but it is important because Congress cannot effectively conduct oversight of the administration without documentation from the executive branch. We have seen enormous resistance to that accountability, as the Obama administration simply does not comply with congressional requests for information on a wide variety of issues,” Wenzel said.

“The public is split on this issue, as 43 percent said the administration is right to withhold information from Congress, and 48 percent said it is not right to do so,” he continued. “In light of the IRS scandal, the Benghazi debacle, Fast and Furious, the NSA domestic spying issue, and several others, you would think Americans would want to know more about what their government is doing to them, but there is a surprising lack of interest in holding this administration accountable, this finding demonstrates.”

On the Defense of Marriage Act, or DOMA, Wenzel said the fact there is support for impeachment over the issue reveals a “growing opposition” to Obama’s pursuit of a “liberal agenda” that is in “opposition” to American values and ideals.

While Obama won’t feel any backlash, as he’s term-limited, “those up for election in toss-up seats in Congress may well feel the backlash of voters.”

How familiar would you say you are with the gun-running scandal involving Attorney General Eric Holder known as “Fast and Furious”?

Do you agree or disagree that United States Attorney General Eric Holder should be impeached because of his handling of thte issue known as the Fast and Furious gun-running operation?

The United States Congress is empowered by the U.S. Constitution with oversight of the executive branch of the U.S. government. Some information, including that from intelligence briefings, is conveyed to Congress in secret and remains secret from the public. Other information is made public. Generally speaking, do you agree or disagree that the executive branch of the U.S. government should be allowed to withhold some documents or information about its operations from those in Congress who have oversight responsibilities?

The U.S. Constitution provides for the president to fill vacancies in his administration when the U.S. Senate is in recess, but when the Senate is in session, they must confirm his nominees. But while the Senate was in session in January 2012, President Obama made what he called recess appointments and these people took office and began to take action on federal business. A federal court later ruled that these appointments violated the Constitution, but these officials continue in their positions. Do you agree or disagree that President Obama should have made these appointments?

Do you agree or disagree that President Obama should be impeached for making these appointments in violation of the Constitution?

President Obama has also appointed more than 30 unelected “czars” to positions in federal agencies without submitting these appointees to the U.S. Senate for their confirmation, as is required by the Constitution. Do you agree or disagree that President Obama should be impeached for making these “czar” appointments in violation of the Constitution?

The Obama administration in 2010 filed a lawsuit against the state of Arizona to stop it from enforcing federal law regarding illegal immigrants, while at about the same time it declined to enforce similar federal statutes in so-called sanctuary cities, which had purposely ignored such federal laws against illegal immigrants. Do you agree or disagree that President Obama should be impeached for his handling of these situations?

In June 2012, President Obama issued an executive order preventing the deportation of many illegal immigrants who were brought to this country as children, though Congress has not passed such a law allowing for such treatment of these illegal immigrants. Do you agree or disagree that President Obama should be impeached for his handling of this situation?

President Obama announced in 2011 that his administration believed the Defense of Marriage Act to be unconstitutional and that they would not defend it. The law, known as DOMA and signed into law in 1996 by President Clinton, guaranteese that states won’t be forced to recognize same-sex marriages conducted in other states. Do you agree or disagree that President Obama should be impeached for his handling of this situation?

There have been numerous reports recently that the National Security Agency has been collecting information from the phone calls, emails, and Internet habits of tens of millions of Americas, in apparent violation of the U.S. Constitution. Utlimately, President Obama is in chargte of this operation. Do you agree or disagree that President Obama should be impeached for his handling of this situation?

Under President Obama, the Internal Revenue Service has targeted conservative nonprofit groups for special scrutiny, including audits, which hampered those groups from organizing to oppose him and other Democrats in the 2012 elections. Do you agree or disagree that President Obama should be impeached for his handling of this situation?

Kerry: Obama has 'right' to take America to war

"I believe I have the authority to carry out this military action without specific congressional authorization..." - Barack Obama, August 31
ALERT: Congress must prepare to impeach, convict, and remove Obama from office for any unconstitutional military action in Syria! Take Action and Fax Congress!

    Conservative American,

The Obama Administration's contempt for the Constitution is reaching unprecedented heights.

Right now, John Kerry is using his position to argue that Obama has a so-called ‘right' to take the country to war without the consent of Congress!

The Secretary told at least three separate media outlets that Obama has the power to go to war alone, presumably even if Congress votes against entering into war with Syria in the coming days.

Speaking to George Stephanopoulos, Kerry had the audacity to say:
"The President of the United States has the right to take this action, doesn't have to go to Congress, but he does so with the belief - and this is why I think it's courageous - the president knows that America is stronger when we act in unity."
Can you believe this? This claim is in flagrant opposition to the U.S. Constitution!

Obama has zero power to declare or take actions of war without the express approval of the U.S. Congress! This is made clear in Article I, Section 8 of the "Supreme Law" - the one that Obama and Kerry swore to uphold and protect.

Bogus claims like these not only smack of tyranny, but tell us that the Obama Administration is prepared to do whatever it takes - with or without Congress - to take our nation to war, even before the facts are settled!

Right now we need to demand lawmakers to prepare to remove Obama from office if he decides to take any actions of war without their approval!

Obama has not the power to drop a single bomb or provide the rebels with a single bullet without Congressional authorization!

Take action! Blast faxes to Congress demanding that they commit to impeach, convict, and remove Obama from office if he engages in any unconstitutional military action in Syria!

** Make sure you add your name to our petition demanding Congress to impeach Obama over unconstitutional military action! Add your name here!
"Engaging our military in Syria when no direct threat to the United States exists and without prior congressional authorization would violate the separation of powers that is clearly delineated in the Constitution." - Rep. Scott Rigell (R-VA)
    Obama Wants War

It is clear that Barack Obama wants to take our nation to war with Syria.

On Friday, he said he's looking at taking "limited, narrow" actions against the forces of Bashar al-Assad, and on Saturday he said, "I believe I have the authority to carry out this military action without specific congressional authorization."

This is a major constitutional problem -- only Congress is vested with the power to declare war!

A bipartisan coalition of 116 House members sent Obama a letter urging him to refrain from taking actions of war without their authorization, but Obama doesn't seem to care. In fact, he is dangerously close to single-handedly taking our nation to war in a manner that the Supreme Law prohibits.

This is why we need to mobilize right away and tell lawmakers to prepare to prepare to remove Obama from office if he takes engages us in an undeclared, unconstitutional war!

Take action! Blast faxes to Congress demanding that they commit to impeach, convict, and remove Obama from office if he engages in any unconstitutional military action in Syria!

"For too long, the legislature's responsibility to authorize military force has been overlooked. It is time that we uphold the Constitution, which makes it clear in Article I, Section 8 that Congress alone holds the power to declare war." - Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC).
    H. Con. Res. 107

Any military action ordered by Obama in the absence of a Congressional Declaration of War is an impeachable offense in violation of the Constitution and the War Powers Resolution of 1973.

That's why Rep. Walter Jones introduced H. Con. Res. 40 to prohibit Obama from "initiating war against Syria without express congressional authorization."

The crux of the bill is as follows:
Resolved by the House of Representatives (the Senate concurring), That it is the sense of Congress that-

    (1) the President is prohibited under the Constitution from the offensive use of the United States Armed Forces in Syria without prior express authorization by an Act of Congress or without a prior express appropriation of funds for that purpose by an Act of Congress; and

    (2) the President's defiance of those constitutional limitations on his authority to initiate war would constitute an impeachable high crime and misdemeanor under article II, section 4 of the Constitution.
America can't afford to go to war without debate, and Obama is bound by oath to honor that fact. With the exception of our nation being physically attacked, the President cannot wage war; he can only preside over war once it has been declared by the People's Congress. Should Obama fail to recognize this, Congress must swiftly remove him from his presidential seat.

Take action and call as many U.S. lawmakers as you can - see our Congressional Directory - and make sure you add your name to our petition here.

Take action! Blast faxes to Congress demanding that they commit to impeach, convict, and remove Obama from office if he engages in any unconstitutional military action in Syria!

P.S. Obama cannot constitutional "wage war" - only Congress can. Tell your lawmakers to poise themselves to impeach Obama if he decides to authorize military action in Syria without Congress' permission. Sign our petition and send free letters here.

Marginalia: While the United States is right to condemn the use of chemical weapons, the simple fact is: we still don't know who is responsible for their recent employment.

The "official" position claims Assad is responsible, although there is evidence that the Free Syrian Army committed the acts.

Until this is settled, no military actions should be initiated.

Take action! Blast faxes to Congress demanding that they commit to impeach, convict, and remove Obama from office if he engages in any unconstitutional military action in Syria!

Open Letter to My Congressman: Don’t Get Sucked Into Barack Obama’s Latest Fast and Furious Operation
Posted by Teri OBrien on September 3, 2013 at 3:51pm

    Dear Rep. _______,

I wonder if you were as taken aback by President Obama’s sudden desire, announced on Saturday, to seek your advice about his plans to lob some missiles into Syria as I was. It seemed particularly bizarre coming only hours after he sent Sec. of State Kerry before the cameras to make a very impassioned case in favor of immediate action. I was stunned. President Obama knows that there is U.S. Congress? His numerous actions doing an end run around Congress because “we can’t wait!” demonstrates that, at best, he considers you guys some sort of ceremonial body with slightly less importance than the United Nations. I mean after all, back in March 2011, President Obama unilaterally decided that Libya’s Muammar Qadhafi had to go, and to make that happen, he fired 100 cruise missiles and committed 12 U.S.Navy ships in the Mediterranean, and 75 U.S. Air Force and Navy aircraft including B-2 bombers. Unlike Saddam Hussein, Qadhafi hadn’t used any chemical weapons, and Obama didn’t use you for political cover in that case. He just felt “the fierce urgency of now,” and did what he pleased.

Now, after only a year in office, Barack Obama’s Muslim Brotherhood pal Mohamed Morsi was ousted from power and is about to be put on trial. As we get ready to commemorate the murder of four brave Americans in Benghazi on September 11, 2012, Libya is a disaster.

The Syrian civil war began in March 2011, and shortly after that, President Barack Obama said that Bashar al-Assad must go, but did nothing. In August, 2012, he took out his crayon and drew his infamous “red line” about chemical weapons. Supposedly in April, 2013, the Assad regime used chemical weapons, and in June, 2014, after confirming that 100-150 people had been killed by them, the Obama regime decided to arm the rebels. Apparently that silly half-measure was less than a speed bump to Assad, because, if the Obama regime is to be believed, the Assad regime killed over 1400 people with chemical weapons last month. So, that’s where we are, and the situation is obvious. Any member of Congress who votes for the President’s plan is being played. If you disagree, please answer the following questions for me because I’m a little confused:

    • Sec. of State Kerry says we “know” from “independent” sources that it was the Assad regime who used these chemical weapons. How do we know that? Is from the same intelligence services that Mr. Kerry and President Obama derided for their failures to be accurate about Iraq? Some have suggested that it’s far from clear who used these chemical weapons. What’s the truth?
    • Assuming for the sake of argument that Mr. Assad is the perp, if we lob these missiles into Syria, how will that action deter Bashar al-Assad’s future use of chemical weapons?
    • If the use of chemical weapons is such an unspeakable breach of international norms, why didn’t we take more aggressive action back in April of this year when Bashar supposedly used them? How do we know that the Syria rebels we are seeking to assist aren’t affiliated with the same guys we are killing with drones in other countries? The Obama regime asks us to trust them, but given their history of being truthful, do you really think that’s wise? Remember the Obama regime’s “Fast and Furious” operation, which armed the bad guys ostensibly to “track” them down? Unfortunately, the weapons weren’t tracked and eventually ended up involved in the murder of at least two American police officers and hundreds of innocent Mexicans.
    • How does telegraphing our plans to the Assad regime and then waiting ten days to do anything guarantee a successful military operation?
    • What is the exit strategy? If, after this surgical “a little bit pregnant” strike, Assad continues to behave in a way that the Obama administration finds unacceptable, then what?

The most compelling evidence of what this Syria melodrama is about is the fact that all of sudden, Barack Obama’s new obsession is Syria. The time to do something about Syria was back in 2011, but that wouldn’t do, would it? That was before last year’s election. If he were really concerned about Assad, who he said in 2011 had to go, that wouldn’t have mattered. So ask yourself, when does Barack Obama ever focus all of his time and energy on anything? Is it when he is acting to advance America’s standing in the world? To strengthen and grow our economy?

To free the dynamic energies of the American people and create prosperity? NO! The only time he focuses like a laser beam is when he is trying to advance his own power so he can deliver the coups de grace to unfair, racist Amerika. This idea is all about the 2014 elections. Remember, Barack Obama defeated the allegedly invincible Clinton political machine because he never had to vote on the Iraq war. He used Hillary’s vote in favor of the Authorization of Force as a cudgel against her. Now, as he did over 100 times as an Illinois state senator, he is voting “present” so he can take all the credit if there is any to take, and none of the blame. His Chicago sleaze meister David Axelrod let the cat out of the bag with his tweet on Saturday. They are going to tell you that this is a vote about Israel, about America’s place in the world, or any other justification that they can use to scare you into going along. Don’t fall for it.
