McConnell on Tea Party: 'We are going to crush them"

In an interview published Saturday in The New York Times, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) had this to say when asked about Tea Party candidates challenging incumbent Republicans in this year's mid-term elections:

“I think we are going to crush them everywhere ... I don’t think they are going to have a single nominee anywhere in the country.”

Not exactly what you'd expect to hear from a Republican "leader" when referring to members of his own party, is it? But the truth is that's exactly what true conservatives are up against in 2014 -- and what they've been facing from "establishment" Republicans for quite some time.

But just hours after McConnell's comments went public, Sarah Palin gave credit where it was due for the 2010 election victories that gave Republicans back their majority in the House of Representatives. Delivering her keynote address at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Saturday evening, the former Republican vice-presidential nominee said:
"You didn't build that. The Tea Party did."
The former Alaska governor and GOP fundraising force also urged the "Beltway Boys":
"Dance with the one that brought you. ... You want another sweep, then grab a broom and join us at the party."

The ugly truth is that real conservatives today aren't just fighting against President Obama, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).
