Mark Levin: Trump 'Nixonesque' in Attacks on Cruz

Mark Levin: Trump 'Nixonesque' in Attacks on Cruz
By Greg Richter | Wednesday, 20 Jan 2016 09:18 PM

Conservative talk radio host Mark Levin said Wednesday that GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump is acting more like Richard Nixon than Ronald Reagan with his attacks on his main rival, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.

Levin on Saturday told Trump to "cut the crap" in attacking Cruz over his citizenship and donations or risk losing conservative voters.

On Wednesday's show, Levin said Trump is acting "Nixonian" telling untruths about Cruz.

"If he becomes the nominee, a lot of people who otherwise would unite under that tent may not, because when you run a campaign of personal attacks, an Alinskyite campaign, wittingly or unwittingly, you turn people off," Levin said.

Levin said he isn't impressed at Trump's constant claims he will be better at making deals in Washington than his opponents, since the problem on Capitol Hill isn't the inability to make deals, but "the kind of deals they make."

He accused Trump of "dirty, low-down politics," and asked, " Is that Reaganesque or more Nixonesque?"

Finally, he played clips of Trump attacking Cruz over loans he received during his campaign for Senate.

"Stop lying about it!" he yelled at Trump. "But he won't."

I've been fan of Levin for ten plus years but this current tack is very disappointing. Thought I was a conservative for 30 yrs but Mark says I was not? I now despise the word "conservative" in the same way I have despised the word "comprehensive" after amnesty struggles. The meaning is being manipulated and its sad to see.

How is Levin saying you're not a conservative? I consider myself a conservative and I have to agree with Levin in regards to Trump's excessive petty attacks. I'm definitely turned off by it. However, I still support Trump, just not as strongly as I once did. Many of us that like Trump also like Cruz. Trump needs to understand that. With that said though, I do understand why Trump is attacking Cruz and it has nothing to do with "making America great." He's doing it because he's wetting his pants over the race for Iowa where he and Cruz are in a dead heat.

If he was simply referring to the "petty attacks" okay fine. But he's going farther. He's questioning his "values." Mark Levin is positioning himself as the Ayatollah of Conservatism and a lot of Cruz supporters are hanging on that every word thus putting a crossover, if Trump prevails, less of a given. Trump DID grow up in NY and DOES have some ingrained values. It does not make him less of a "conservative." That's why I bring up that the meaning is being manipulated. Conservatism SHOULD encompass those who believe in the majority of its issues. Am I not a "true conservative" if I believe in 95% of conservative principles but also believe that a child raped by her father should be able to abort a resultant pregnancy? According to Levin and those he's riling up, I'm not.
