A possible candidate is born: Sen. Ted Cruz a ‘wild card’ for GOP presidential bid

by Seth McLaughlin-The Washington Times | published on August 20, 2013

Sen. Ted Cruz has released his birth certificate, visited the states that traditionally open the Republican presidential race and cemented himself as one of the few no-holds-barred foes of Obamacare.

Taken together, the moves signal that the 42-year-old Texan — elected to the Senate less than a year ago — is seriously considering a run for the White House.
“I think Cruz is in and he is serious and he is going to be a tough out,” said Mike McKenna, a Republican strategist. “He is going to be the disruptive force in 2016. Cruz is the 2016 wild card now.”
On Monday, Mr. Cruz looked to put to bed any questions about whether he is eligible to run for president by releasing to The Dallas Morning News his birth certificate, showing he was born in 1970 in Canada to an American mother, giving him both Canadian and U.S. citizenship. By Monday evening, The Washington Post was reporting that Mr. Cruz plans to renounce his Canadian citizenship — clearing the way, apparently, for a White House bid.
The decision to release the document put him in a similar boat as President Obama, who in 2011 released his birth certificate showing he was born in Hawaii in 1961 after “birthers” claimed he was born outside of the U.S. and therefore has been illegally calling the shots from the Oval Office.

Get this strait Ted Cruz is great but he can't become the President of the United States ......When did Canada become part of this Country what does that have to do with this ....Both his parent were not American born, was his father born in America, NOOOO, he was born in Cuba. Being born in Canada would give him dual citizenship simply by being born to an American mother ... Being President requires being born to two American born citizens. I like Ted Cruz but facts is facts!!!I brought over this birth certificate at another link somewhere here but can't find it so I brought it over again with the link provided below the birth certificate! Don't let them pull this bull crap on you again about being born in Canada etc it is all crap just like Obama being legal to be President is...These two men are the same....His mother was an American born citizen ....but his father was not!!!! RING A BELL!!!

No, Ted Cruz ‘birthers’ are not the same as Obama birthers

By Aaron Blake, Published: August 19 at 2:09 pmE-mail the writer

President Obama’s birth certificate, which was released in 2011.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Monday released his birth certificate, seeking to put to rest questions about whether the Canadian-born senator is qualified to run for president in 2016.
Immediately, parallels were drawn to President Obama’s 2011 release of his own birth certificate, which also was meant to end lingering questions about his eligibility to be president.
And for the few in the birther community, they see hypocrisy. Why are the media not denouncing those who question Cruz’s eligibility in the same way they have denounced the so-called “birthers” who continue to question Obama’s?
The reason? Because about the only thing these two situations have in common is that they involve a birth certificate and a presidential candidate.

Questions about Cruz’s eligibility have everything to do with interpretation of the law; the questions about Obama’s eligibility had everything to do with a dispute over the underlying facts — more specifically, conspiracy theories about whether the president was actually born in the United States, as he claimed, and whether he somehow forged a birth certificate that said he was born in Hawaii.
In Cruz’s case, nobody is disputing the underlying facts of the case — that Cruz was born in Canada to a Cuban father and a mother who was a United States citizen. As we wrote back in March, that makes him a U.S. citizen himself, but it’s not 100 percent clear that that is the same thing as a “natural born citizen” — the requirement for becoming president.
Most scholars think it’s the same thing, and the Congressional Research Service said in 2011 that someone like Cruz “most likely” qualifies to run for president. But to this point, there is no final word from the courts, because while foreign-born candidates have run — including George Romney and John McCain — none of them has actually won and had his eligibility challenged.
Obama was also born to a mother who was a U.S. citizen, meaning if he was in fact born outside the United States, the situations might be parallel. But birthers weren’t making a legal argument about Obama; they were arguing the facts about where he was born and accusing him of perpetrating a massive fraud.
Some will accuse the media of instituting a double standard when it comes to these two cases because Cruz is a Republican and Obama is a Democrat. But nobody is accusing Cruz of lying about his past as part of a vast conspiracy to become president.
It’s just not an apples-to-apples comparison.

Right it isn't apples to apples in the sense that one is definitely not good for the Country!!!!

The other definite comparison is: Is it legal or not legal it is not legal..And both he and Obama are not legal candidates!!! Both have one parent that is not American born..Kapeesh....

Meh, they're both eligible to run for President, but I do have to say it is quite amusing to watch the hypocrisy and mental gymnastics taking place on both sides all of a sudden. You got the birthers who absolutely just love Cruz not saying much on the matter despite the absolute uproar they made back in 2012 on this issue. And then you have the liberals who all of a sudden are genuinely questioning whether Cruz is American given he was born in Canada when they were just a year ago brushing aside the possibility that Obama was born in Kenya and if it were the case, did not matter.

The amount of hypocrisy in these two parties is something to behold

Natural Born Citizen: If Obama Can Be President, Then So Can Ted Cruz

In order to understand the controversy regarding Presidential eligibility, Americans must first disabuse themselves of the notions that politicians obey the law and journalists tell the truth. As a class, neither is driven by service to the nation, but by political expediency to protect and enhance their own financial interests. Although politicians and journalists would have you think otherwise, the laws defining Presidential eligibility are unambiguous. In addition to being over the age of thirty-five and a resident of the United States for fourteen years, Article 2, Section 1 of the Constitution requires that the President be a natural born citizen. The term “natural born citizen” was well-known during the time of the writing of the Constitution from Vattel’s “Law of Nations” (175, which stated “natural-born citizens are those born in a country of citizen parents” (Volume 1, Chapter 19, Section 212). Subsequently, the binding Supreme Court precedent Minor vs. Happersett (1875) defined a natural born citizen as a US citizen born to two US citizen parents at the time of birth. According to that definition, Barack Obama, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Bobby Jindal and Rick Santorum are ineligible to be President. None of them fulfill the requirement of natural born citizenship because at least one parent was not a US citizen at the time of their births. Why is there a controversy? Because, I repeat, politicians and journalists are driven by political expediency in order to protect and enhance their own financial interests. Lewis H. Lapham (“A Wish for Kings”) accurately described how the US Government operates: “The politicians dress up the deals in the language of law or policy, but they’re in the business of brokering the tax revenue, and what keeps them in office is not their talent for oratory but their skill at redistributing the national income in a way that rewards their clients, patrons, friends and campaign contributors.” That is, our permanent political class and the symbiotic media, who feed off the system, are the beneficiaries of an extortion racket, which remains in business only through a continuous flow of taxpayer dollars and a burgeoning debt. Not unlike common criminals, politicians do not wish to be constrained by the rule of law, particularly the Constitution, which inhibits their political maneuverability and desire for an ever-expanding central government. Since 1975, there have been numerous attempts by both Democrats and Republicans in Congress to amend the Article II “natural born citizen” clause. The censorship and disinformation campaign about Obama’s ineligibility began in February 2008, about the time he started to overtake Hillary Clinton in the Democratic Presidential primary. In a classical political diversion, Obama supporters fabricated a controversy that questioned the eligibility of Republican Presidential candidate Senator John McCain (R-AZ). The basis of their challenge was that McCain was born in a Panamanian hospital while his U.S. Navy officer father and his U.S. citizen mother were serving at a U.S. military base in the Panama Canal Zone. The fake McCain controversy was settled in April 2008 through Senate Resolution 511, which, in essence, was a political deal struck between the Democrats and Republicans that provided validation for McCain and, hopefully from the Democratic standpoint, cover for Obama on the issue of eligibility. SR 511, a non-binding resolution with an unrecorded vote, had no force of law, but by passing it Congress created the conditions whereby the Constitution could be amended de facto through a back-room political pact. Republican involvement in SR 511 and the fear of being branded a “racist” by the liberal media prevented any meaningful vetting of candidate Obama after he secured the Democratic Presidential nomination in June 2008. Complicit with the Democrats in violating the Constitution, the Republicans joined them in a deliberate campaign of disinformation to hide the truth about Obama and the natural born requirement; an effort that continues to this day. Both the Democratic and Republican parties know that exposing Obama now would reveal their dereliction of duty, their collusion to undermine the Constitution and their uninterrupted flouting of the rule of law. They all know that the truth would upend the status quo and terminate their exclusive grip on political power, allowing the American people to regain control of their government; an outcome that they will go to any length to prevent. The partisan and dishonest liberal media will continue to attack Ted Cruz and shield Barack Obama. The cowardly Republicans and conservative pundits will remain silent to protect their financial stake in a corrupt political system. As a consequence, the country will be lesser for it.
