Math
Last week I purchased a burger for $2.58. The counter girl took my $3 and I was digging for my change when I pulled 8 cents from my pocket and gave it to her. She stood there, holding the nickel and 3 pennies, while looking at the screen on her register.
I sensed her discomfort and tried to tell her to just give me two quarters, but she hailed the manager for help. While he tried to explain the transaction to her, she stood there and cried.
Why do I tell you this? Please read more about the "history of teaching math":

Great post, Husker. This is why GWB wants to import 50,000 nurses.
The educational costs for illegal aliens in American schools is estimated at 7.4 billion dollars. I believe we could educate a lot of Americans in math and science with that money, and have enough nurses, so that we don't have to "import" them.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

For almost ALL reports you get on illegals, the rule of thumb is triple.
However, here in NE, it is MUCH worse. We are getting crap stated like 15k illegals, when the REAL number is probably closer to 150-200k.
As for costs (your original question), getting statistics is like pulling teeth. NO ONE wants to keep track, or ask ANY questions. However, with the new payments from the feds to hospitals, some stats may slowly creep into the picture. Right now, getting accutate stats is impossible for most agencies. Surprisingly, the BEST stats come from jails/prisons. Prison pop here in NE (we have no federal pens) is 1200 inmates, with 382 being illegal aliens, with average cost per inmate at 27500 (the illegals might be a higher number, since they get interpreters). Thus, in NE for this SINGLE issue, is over 10M per year. For the schools, in Omaha alone, the number of ESL students is 48000. Assuming that 75% are illegals (a guess, but probably not far off), we have 36k being schooled (K-12). At about 6000 per (probably much higher again for illegals due to added translation costs), we have a cost of 200+ million a year. I would assume medical costs being close to the cost of education (if not more). Costs like this add up pretty damn quickly. When you see how small NE is, and that it probably costs us 1B a year, you can see how 300B a year is NOT an outrageous cost. However, you would NEVER hear that number thrown out by the MSM.
