McCaskill (D. Mo.) is a fence sitter

She's trying to restrict immigration--and American job loss--by zeroing in on larger businesses. I think there are better tactics than putting CEO's in for long sentences, as McCaskill recommends, in true Conservative Democrat form--This is going to stir up more resentment.

Fines yes. we don't need to put a miilion people in to the federal pentitentiary system and cost billions of US $.

What other methods? I'm finding articles, even by Hispanics, that are decrying the effects of people leaving their own countries for easier money in the US.

Your arguement is noted BUT the best single measure to restrict illegal alien immigration, illegal aliens being employed here and make damn sure that business's don't hire illegal aliens (thereby forcing Americans outof work) is ENFORCEMENT. It's not a Dem anti-big business vs. Republican pro-big business issue it's a matter of holding employers to the letter of the law.

I agree with Sen. McCaskill, throw the violaters in prison for 6 to 12 months. Like she said, it won't take sending many to prison before the rest realize it's time to rethink their hiring procedures. Right now we taxpayers are paying for tens of thousands of illegal immigrant criminals in prison. Now, why can't we pay for a few hundred or couple thousand illegal immigrant employers? McCaskill is absolutely right, our government doesn't have the will to seriously attack the problem of illegal immigration. IMHO, actively going after, and prosecuting, employers should be a top priority. Every employer that gets sent to prison will probably prevent hundreds or thousands of future illegal immigrants from become a burden to taxpayers. Hey, that sounds like a pretty darn good trade-off to me. Furthermore, McCaskill was dead on regarding her comment about many of these employers knowing they're hiring illegal immigrants. The American people aren't the stupid idiots our U.S. Congress and President Bush seem to think! We know full well what is going on concerning the failure to pursue illegal employers.
