LONG BEACH — After working through the night, police arrested three teenagers for the fatal shooting of a Long Beach resident who was gunned down in front of a 12-year-old girl late Tuesday.
Officers called to the area of Seventh Street and Rose Avenue at about 8:50 p.m. Tuesday found the victim on the ground with a gunshot wound to the upper torso, said Sgt. Aaron Eaton, a Long Beach Police Department spokesman.
The victim, identified as 20-year-old Gerardo Palencia, was rushed to a local hospital where he later died, the sergeant said.
The preliminary investigation revealed Palencia was walking in the area alongside a 12-year-old girl who was riding a scooter and they had just passed three suspects who were leaving a business in the area of Gaviota Avenue and Seventh Street when the confrontation occurred.
The girl, a relative of the victim, was just steps in front of Palencia when the suspects confronted him, asking him what gang he belonged to, Eaton said.
The victim did not respond and tried to rush the little girl out of the area, but the suspects followed him on their bicycles and caught up to the victim just before Rose Avenue, the sergeant said.
"One of the suspects, without provocation, produced a firearm and shot at the victim multiple times," Eaton said.
The trio then fled the area while the 12-year-old girl, who was not injured, ran into a nearby business for help.
Investigators arrested three

suspects, all from Long Beach, early Wednesday: 19-year-old Montreal Hill, 18-year-old Eric Hubbard and a 15-year-old boy, whose name was withheld because he is a minor.All have been booked on a charge of first degree murder with an allegation the slaying was carried out to benefit their gang, Eaton said.
Homicide detectives are expected to take their case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office this week for filing, the sergeant said.
Hubbard and Hill are being held on $1 million bail each, while the juvenile is being held without bail.
The shooting marked the second homicide in Long Beach within the past week, though it does not appear to be related to last Friday's slaying, Eaton said.
Estuaredo Rodriguez, 19, of Long Beach may also have been victim of gang violence when he was gunned down near Seventh and Chestnut Avenue Friday night, police said.

The left prefer victims it's the liberal utopia, no discussion of how our society has become so filled with hate, little values/morals simply blame an inanimate object rather then speak of the reason behind the division in our country the mental illness, kids filled with hate over broken homes single parents, the left wants a secular society and that is what they are building piece by piece, in the end firearms will be the least of these ignorant folks problems.

Common sense has died in our country watching television news is much like watching monkey's in a zoo.

In my opinion we are seeing the fruit of the progressive movement. Children alienated from family and moral teaching and marxist indoctrination in the schools. JMO

Gun rights advocates blame Adam Lanza's medication

In several speculative reports following the massacre of children at Sandy Hook Elementary, defenders of the Second Amendment claim that Lanza was likely on medication which may have caused his homicidal behavior.

In an article citing various reports that Adam Lanza was "on medication" or had a "personality disorder," Mike Adams writing for Natural News, opines that instead of gun control, "we need medication control!"

Adams' article was picked up by Infowars and other alternative news sites that support gun rights. Such groups claim that the Second Amendment was specifically written to ensure that citizens can protect themselves in the event that government devolves into tyranny. According to Adams, the mental condition of the shooter is more relevant than access to weapons. Writes Adams,

The Columbine High School shooters were, of course, on psychiatric drugs at the time they shot their classmates in 1999. Suicidal tendencies and violent, destructive thoughts are some of the admitted behavioral side effects of mind-altering prescription medications.

As gun rights advocates try to redirect Sand Hook massacre discussion away from gun control, others call for stricter laws. But while no confirmation has been made that Adam Lanza was on prescribed medication, a non-proft mental health watchdog group called the Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) corroborates that

Psychiatric drugs are documented by international drug regulatory agencies to cause suicidal and homicidal ideation, mania, psychosis, worsening depression and a host of violence inducing side effects. Numerous school shooters were under the influence of these drugs when they went on shooting rampages ... Yet there has never been a federal investigation into the link between psychiatric drugs and random senseless acts of violence.
