A total of 10 men have been jailed for a combined 130 years after setting fire to a home in a ‘revenge attack’ that severely injured a woman and a teenage girl.
On December 16, 2021, shortly before 11pm, a group of men smashed the downstairs windows of a house on Beverley Drive in Stoke-on-Trent and poured petrol into the hallway and outside the living room window.

A 31-year-old woman and a 13-year-old girl were inside at the time, both of whom had no choice but to jump out of an upstairs window.
Police confirmed that the mother had been struck on the head and set on fire; she suffered 65% burns, a broken pelvis, broken ribs, and a cut to her liver.
She spent two months in a coma and was not expected to survive, but she is now walking again and is predicted to need medical treatment for life.
The child suffered 15% burns to her arm, requiring skin grafts, in what Staffordshire Police’s major investigations department called a ‘truly shocking’ act of violence.

An 11-week trial followed at Nottingham Crown Court, which concluded in February, while several men entered guilty pleas prior to the trial.
Today, at Leicester Crown Court, seven men were sentenced, while three others had already been sentenced at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court.

On June 3, Bilal Ahmed, 27, of Normacot, Stoke-on-Trent, and Naveed Hussain, 32, of Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, were sentenced.
Ahmed was given 15 months in prison, suspended for 18 months, as well as 100 hours of unpaid work after pleading guilty to violent disorder.
Hussain was sentenced to 22 months in prison, suspended for 18 months, after pleading guilty to violent disorder and possession of a knife blade or sharp pointed article in a public place.
On July 7, Kashif Ahmed, 26, of Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, was sentenced to 48 weeks in prison after pleading guilty to violent disorder.

Sentenced today, Haris Mahmood, 22, of Normacot, Stoke-on-Trent, was given 24 years and nine months, having pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted murder and arson with intent to endanger life.
Shakil Uddin, 23, of Oldham, was sentenced to 34 years after being convicted of one count of attempted murder and arson with intent to endanger life.

Ali Abbas, 23, of Normacot, Stoke-on-Trent, was jailed for 25 years after pleading guilty to numerous charges: two counts of attempted murder and arson with intent to endanger life, two counts of grievous bodily harm with intent, and possession of a knife or blade in a public place.
Riyadh Iqbal, 23, of Normacot, Stoke-on-Trent, was sentenced to 12-and-a-half years after being found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent and arson with intent to endanger life.
Tayyeb Majeed, 24, of Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, was jailed for 10-and-a-half years after a conviction for grievous bodily harm with intent.
Lukman Khan, 25, of Normacot, Stoke-on-Trent, was sentenced to 12-and-a-half years after being found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent and arson with intent to endanger life.

Finally, Muhammad Sufyaan-Shah, 25, was sentenced to 11-and-a-half years in prison after being found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent.
All will serve two-thirds of their sentences, with the rest on licence.
The court heard how, at approximately 4pm on the day of the fire, a fight broke out between Hussain, Abbas, Bilal Ahmed, and Kashif Ahmed.

According to police, the brawl on Kildare Street, Longton, resulted in Kashif Ahmed sustaining a stab wound to his shoulder, for which he went to hospital.
Then, several hours later, a gang went to the two-bed property on Beverley Drive and demanded to speak to Hussain, at which point the revenge attack was carried out.
Hussain’s ex-partner was ‘relaxing in her home’ at the time, unaware that he had been in a street fight earlier on, while her teenage daughter was ‘on her phone upstairs’ when she heard the men breaking in, demanding to know where her stepdad was. It is believed Hussain visited his ex and her child at the house ‘periodically’.

Judge Mayo said it is ‘virtually impossible to imagine a more horrific scene’ than what the victims faced that night, with the girl having recalled hearing her mother screaming as her ‘hair, face, arms, and legs’ were on fire while she was unclothed.
The attack was described as ‘deliberate revenge for the relatively minor injury to Kashif Ahmed’, with prosecutor Siobhan Collins adding: ‘It is clear when that was put in motion the intended victim was Naveed Hussain.’
Commenting after the offenders were sentenced, Detective Constable Howard Davies said: ‘We hope these sentences send a strong message that this kind of violence will not be tolerated and that those responsible will be held to account.’

A woman living in relative luxury had a dark secret hiding in her home on the outskirts of Sherwood Forest.
Behind a bedroom door only lockable from the outside, a nine-year-old boy was slowly dying in destitution.
Catherine Walker, 47, had become his legal guardian but his room was left in squalor, a stark contrast to the rest of her comfortable house in Warsop, a parish in Nottinghamshire.

There were no curtains in his window, an electric socket was left hanging dangerously off the wall and he had no radiator.
He was found unresponsive in the room on the morning of 16 December 2024.
The boy died later in hospital.
Walker, a member of staff at Nottinghamshire Police, claimed that renovations had been taking place but this was revealed to be a lie.
Other witnesses claimed there had been clear mistreatment of the boy over a prolonged period of time.
In her defence, Walker’s former husband – who also died shortly after – was the boy’s primary carer and had been mainly responsible for his treatment.
Walker later pleaded guilty to two counts of assault, child neglect and causing unnecessary suffering.
At her sentencing hearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday, Catherine Walker – also known as Kathryn – was jailed for six years.
In sentencing, Judge Stuart Rafferty KC said Walker had deliberately concealed and covered up the ‘gratuitous degradation’ of the boy, adding that she had effectively sentenced herself to ‘a life of shame.’

DCI Gail Routledge said: ‘This was one of the most upsetting cases I can remember.
‘This boy was very clearly mistreated for a significant period of time and was living in conditions that no child should have to endure.
‘It was always our case that this mistreatment was a deliberate choice by the defendant, rather than the result of neglectful parenting.
‘I am pleased she has now been held to account for her role in his death.’

A gang who left a mother and daughter with serious burns after a 'revenge' petrol bomb attack have been jailed for nearly 130 years.
Seven men played varying roles in the attack at an address in Stoke-on-Trent at about 11pm on December 16, 2021.
Ali Abbas, Haris Mahmood, Shakil Uddin, Muhammad Sufyaan-Shah, Tayyeb Majeed, Riyadh Iqbal, and Lukman Khan were on Friday sentenced to a total of 129 years behind bars.

The petrol bomb attack was carried out at an address in Beverley Drive, Bentilee, in 'revenge' after Kashif Ahmed was stabbed during a violent disorder in a Normacot street.
However the arson attack left a Stoke-on-Trent woman and her teenage daughter with serious burns and injuries.
Prosecutor Siobhan Collins told the court yesterday: 'The two-bed semi-detached house was occupied by a mother and her daughter.
'Both were inside at the time the fire was set. Both escaped the property by jumping from a first-floor window. Both suffered serious injuries, the mother life-threatening injuries.
'The fire was started as a deliberate act of revenge which concerned Naveed Hussain.

'At 4.20pm Naveed Hussain and another unknown man were involved in violence with another group of men.
'This involved Kashif Ahmed, his brother Bilal Ahmed, their cousin Ali Abbas, and an unidentified fourth man.
'During that confrontation Naveed Hussain stabbed Kashif Ahmed to the shoulder. That stabbing established the foundations for the revenge attack on the address in Beverley Drive.
'It is clear when that was put in motion the intended victim was Naveed Hussain.
'Within moments of the wounding of Kashif Ahmed members of the group who were involved in the revenge attack set about calling in the support of others.'

The court heard the mother tried to shut the door on the gang when they attacked her door.
Ms Collins said: 'The window was put through. She could smell petrol. She tried to close the door on them, pulling her daughter behind her.
'She heard a match being lit. Her clothes were on fire. There was a smell of petrol, the sound of liquid. She said, 'I just knew whoever it was, I could hear petrol being tipped and I could smell it'.'
The mother suffered 45 per cent burns to her head, neck, legs, and upper arms.
She also had a severe inhalation injury, fractures to her ribs, a fractured pelvis, and a lacerated liver.
It was thought she would not survive.
Her 13-year-old daughter had 12 per cent burns, an inhalation injury, and required skin grafts.

'Unbeknown to her, her partner had been involved in a street fight earlier that day in the south of the city.
'This was deliberate revenge for the relatively minor injury to Kashif Ahmed.
'Two cars drove to Bentilee. There were nine men in those cars, the seven defendants, one man who has fled the jurisdiction, and one person who is as yet unidentified.
'The daughter heard noise and saw men breaking into their house asking where her step-dad was. She could hear the sound of petrol being thrown.
'She described her mother as screaming and on fire on her hair, face, arms and legs and her mother was not wearing anything. Mother and daughter escaped through the front bedroom window.'
Judge Mayo said he took totality into account when passing 'just and proportionate sentences'.
The defendants will each serve two-thirds of their sentences with the rest on licence.

Seven men have today been jailed for a total of almost 130 years for their role in a revenge arson attack which left a Stoke-on-Trent woman and her teenage daughter with serious burns and injuries. Ali Abbas, Haris Mahmood, Shakil Uddin, Muhammad Sufyaan-Shah, Tayyeb Majeed, Riyadh Iqbal, and Lukman Khan played varying roles in the attack at an address in Beverley Drive, Bentilee, at about 11pm on Tuesday, December 16, 2021, just hours after Kashif Ahmed was stabbed during a violent disorder in a Normacot street.

Today they were jailed by Judge Rupert Mayo at Loughborough Crown Court.

Prosecutor Siobhan Collins told the court yesterday: "The two-bed semi-detached house was occupied by a mother and her daughter. Both were inside at the time the fire was set. Lukman Khan, aged 25, of Hamilton Road, Normacot, who was convicted after trial of grievous bodily harm with intent and arson with intent, was jailed for 12-and-a-half years.
