    UPDATED: 1:17 pm CDT October 7, 2005

TIFTON, Ga. -- A south Georgia mayor is being criticized for flying a Mexican flag over city hall.

Tifton Mayor Paul Johnson said he's flying the red, white and green flag in memory of six local immigrants who were killed with guns and baseball bats during a crime rampage.

Authorities blamed the deaths on a gang that preyed on immigrants. Three people have been charged with first-degree murder.

Seven residents of have publicly complained that flying the Mexican flag is inappropriate, but the mayor insists it is the right thing to do.

Johnson said he considers immigrants to be a part of the community. He said the flag will fly for six days, one for each man killed.

"Immigrants are part of WHAT community"??? If they're part of the American community then the MEXICAN flag is totally inappropriate..if they want a MEXICAN flag flown then go to Mexico. That is an insult to Americans.

Wonder how we reach that clown...errrr..mayor.

What were the Mexican victims immigration status, if their own residence and work papers were imaginary then obviously fly an imaginary Mexican flag.

I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

It would seem the Tifton mayor's actions of hoisting the Mexican flag would only make matters worse.

Believe it or not, south Georgia is overcome with illegals. We saw it while traveling through there this summer. Surprising, because you wouldn't think this could happen in small southern towns the way it happens in larger cities.
But it sure has, especially in Georgia.
