    One Hard Worker

I hate to toot my own horn, but I gotta give credit where credit is due.
Today, the 4th of July, one of the most important national holidays of the year, I am working from 9:00 AM to 10:30 PM.
Nobody else at my company wants to do this.
    My point?
I work a job that most Americans won't do.
I don't have to be an immigrant to do it either, especially not an illegal one.
I am a natural born citizen, I speak English, I pay taxes, and I have auto insurance.

Perhaps it's no big deal though.
Perhaps there are hundreds of thousands of U.S. citizens who work jobs like mine.

Have any of you ever reached a point in your careers where you said to yourself, "Most Americans wouldn't want to do this"?

    Anyways, happy 4th everyone!!

Sounds good. What is your occupation?

I once worked two jobs on Labor Day. (cashiered at a buffet and later that evening at a supermarket.) I joked with my friend, "If today is Labor Day, a day off for "Labor," then why am I working both of my jobs?" I guess you had to be there.

I work in education. And oddly enough, my school always holds class on Labor Day, Memorial Day, and pretty much any other holiday accept for Thanksgiving and Christmas. The rest of the staff gets a holiday, but due to my position, I have to be here to open up the building.

And no, I won't be revealing the name of my school (I'm sure everyone would like to know which school holds class on holidays). I will say that it is a very large private university.

When I worked as a Charge Nurse, I ended up working 98% of the holidays. Particularly after my girls left. That let the others stay home with their kids.

Guess what, people get sick and hurt on holidays, too!!!!!

Seriously, when I wished everyone a SAFE July 4th, I meant it!

    Interesting post...

Just as and aside of interest...how many here are aware that some schools have had to ALTER their schedules, close the schools for longer periods of time because too many students of Latino descent wanted to go home to their HOME COUNTRIES for MAJOR HOLIDAYS.

    BTW:

If anyone is in Miami, tonight. Watch out.

Certain groups of folk who shall remain unnamed, shoot bullets into the air from around 10 pm on. At midnight, I'm in rooms without windows/doors. We usually end up with someone shot.

    It's not fireworks out there.

I guess they left school too early to learn about gravity, and that what goes up, must come down.

Don't know if this happens in other cities or not.

It happens in many cities. I recall (here in Houston) hearing a shooting contest in one of these unnamed neighborhoods on New Years Eve a few years ago. I don't see why the 4th would be any different.

Btw, a few blasts from a shotgun eventually quieted all the pistol popping. Although, I think it's best to not fire guns for celebration and also not return fire in attempt to intimidate the first party. Guns are tools -not toys.

Why is it so bad to identify these people who shoot guns into the air. When we ignore the source, we never solve the problem.

As I watch the launch of the Space Shuttle, I am amazed at what this country has accomplished in the short time it has been in existance. I then wonder why we would allow a 3rd world country such a Mexico to dump it's poor, criminals, and illiterates into our society.

    MelvinPainter,

It's all races that shoot guns up in the air during holidays.

I just didn't want to call them curse words. They're selfish jerks. They don't think about anyone else but themselves. It's just a culture... of violence.
