Michigan job openings that are denied to American citizens
Are there jobs at Michigan State University which bar American citizens from applying?
Now that unemployment in Michigan has reached 15%, it is interesting to note that there are some jobs in the State of Michigan that bar American citizens from applying. According to the law it is illegal to bar an individual from applying for a job if he is a citizen, but right on the campuses of Michigan State University and the University of Michigan we have job openings that are denied to American citizens.
These jobs potentially represent millions of dollars in wages that could go to qualified American citizens. Several examples are shown here: http://www.h1bstats.com/visa/2007/m/MIC ... RSITY.html
This is clearly against the law.
The jobs in these lists were given to H-1B workers from foreign countries to perform tasks that Americans are capable of doing. At universities these often include desirable, good paying faculty and scientific career positions that have plenty of Americans seeking them out for employment, but are "reserved" only for foreign H-1Bs.
Just look at some of these "foreign only" job openings. Can you really say that Americans are not qualified to do them?

Bill Gates is one of the biggest supporters of these visas. Big business loves this program because they get to pay about 30% less than they would pay an American. At this point in time I suspect there are Americans that would work for low pay just to be working.
There you have it folks. Our universities are on the side of the left too. If this is happening in Michigan with their outrageous unemployment then you know it's happening all across this country.

The above information is from 2007. Although far less detailed, here is "Michigan State University: H1-B & Green Card Sponsor Profile" (2001-2009):
http://www.myvisajobs.com/Visa-Sponsor/ ... 356154.htm
In fairness, MSU is a very large university, and they show applications for only 159 Green Cards and 1,215 H1-B Visas over an 8 year period. In contrast, look at the statistics shown for IBM! And U.S. citizen students are not entering advanced degree programs in math and science as they once did. Perhaps this is because - as the original post shows - even among foreign employees a coach can be paid more than a physicist!
