Trump tried to back off Pence pick: report
By Mark Hensch

Donald Trump considered abandoning Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his running mate late Thursday night after offering him the job, CNN's Dana Bash reported Friday:
Scoop: @realDonaldTrump was so unsure about @mike_pence that around midnight last night he asked top aides if he could get out of it
— Dana Bash (@DanaBashCNN) July 15, 2016
Bash elaborated on her report Friday on CNN television.
“Around midnight last night ... Donald Trump was on the phone with senior advisors trying to get out of this,” she said.“This is after he offered the job to Mike Pence, and they flew him to New York, and they had him sitting in a hotel room in Manhattan thinking he is going to be the vice presidential pick and he just basically dumped his own plans for reelection in Indiana as governor,” Bash added.
“And so what this tells us is that this was so out of Donald Trump’s comfort zone. He does not operate like this.”
Trump was leaning toward New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie while his top aides were beating the drum for Pence, the report said.
“He operates with the gut, and by all accounts if you were following the gut, he would have gone with Chris Christie,” Bash said. "Everybody around him in the campaign apparatus had been making these moves to make it so Mike Pence would be his running mate.
“Flying him to New York. Making it and leaking it to the press that he was going to be making the call. Telling people in and around the Cleveland convention, especially where conservatives are gathered, ‘don’t worry, wink, wink, nod, nod, it is Mike Pence.’”
NBC News reporter Kelly O’Donnell confirmed Bash’s report.Sources tell me @realDonaldTrump was on phone till midnight making calls, asking if he could change course on VP pickJason Miller, senior communications adviser for Trump’s campaign, on Friday said Bash’s account is wrong.

This is completely false. Zero truth to it. https://t.co/xC8QAV17W3Trump on Friday announced Pence as his running mate, ending months of speculation over who the billionaire would select.

On late Thursday, Trump had said he had not made “a final, final decision” between Christie, Pence and former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.).

Excerpt:
I don't know what to think of someone who has used the issues of illegal immigration and border security to win over Republicans, yet goes on to eliminate Sen. Sessions in favor of folks like Pence, Gingrich, and Christie. It just doesn't make any sense, especially since immigration/border security was his mantle piece. On late Thursday, Trump had said he had not made “a final, final decision” between Christie, Pence and former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.).
After hearing Pence is the man, I will admit to feeling a little used and abused. Of course most folks on here know Trump was not my first choice, however, I will vote for him since my hand has been forced. IMO, Trump has never really been crystal clear on a lot of issues, so why should his choice of Pence surprise me? Just saying ......"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" ** Edmund Burke**

It may be that Senator Sessions and Donald Trump decided that Senator Sessions could best serve the nation by staying in the Senate to help usher through and fight for legislation or maybe there is another position for him to serve. I believe that Trump has great respect for what Senator Sessions thinks and that he trusts him. He did meet with him in the past day or two so Trump may have discussed it with him again as far as VP and also question him about Governor Pence.
NumbersUSA was mentioned as issuing a statement on Governor Pence. It is positive for the most part and as MW posted earlier "touchback amnesty" was a suggested idea that did not become legislation.
