    Senator Boxer's (D-CA) relpy

Here is the lastest reply I received from Senator Boxer (D-CA)

    Dear Mrs. XXXXXX:

Thank you for contacting me to express your views on immigration reform. I appreciate hearing from you.

As you may know, the Senate recently debated S.1348, the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2007.

In its current form, this bill is unworkable and unfair. I am particularly troubled by its proposal to create a new guestworker program. I have always had problems with guestworker programs because I believe they lead to increased illegal immigration, a downward pressure on American wages, and a loss of workplace protections.

That is why on June 7, 2007, I joined 49 other Senators in rejecting cloture, thereby preventing the bill from proceeding to a final vote. Be assured that I will keep working to fix our broken immigration system in a manner that protects American workers and reduces illegal immigration.

Again, thank you for writing to me. Please feel free to contact me again about this or any other issue of concern to you.

    Press Release of Senator Boxer
Boxer Statement on the Cloture Vote on Immigration

    Thursday, June 7, 2007

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) today issued the following statement on the immigration bill:

“I know how hard my colleagues have worked—on both sides of the aisle—to put this immigration bill together. But I believe that this bill, as it currently stands, is unworkable and unfair. This bill needs to be clarified, simplified, and rectified before I can support it.

“If enacted, I believe the bill will lead to the exploitation of workers, including the 12 million undocumented immigrants we all hope to put on the path to legalization. I also believe it will exert downward pressure on wages at a time when we are already losing our middle class.

“I have always been troubled by the inclusion of a guestworker program in the bill. The guest worker program is designed, in my opinion, to create a permanent pool of insecure and low-paid workers whom I believe will never leave the country, even though they are supposed to, according to the rules of the program. This will only continue the cycle of illegal immigration.

“There are concepts in the bill I strongly support – a path to legalization for the 12 million undocumented immigrants, a secure border, AgJobs, and the DREAM Act.

“But this bill needs much more work. I believe we can achieve an immigration bill that will be fair and just to all, and the best chance for that is to vote against cloture and continue working as long as it takes to get it right.â€

At least she is questioning the bill. That means she is undecieded, which means she needs to be persuaded. And she did vote no on the cloture (what the hell is a cloture anyways?)

She's one of our better ones in California, and she voted against the last great Amnesty (for whatever reasons). But she will need to be reminded we're watching her.

Cloture is the same as Closure. Means that they stop debating the bill and vote. But we WANT more debate, more amendments etc. Actually we want it debated and then discarded like the piece of vomit this "Immigration Reform" is.

Bush and his cronies intend to keep bringing it back, threatening to do it again and again until the illegal wins. We might just have to name this bill "Immigration Regurgitation"

Rec'd the same response from her.

    She's up for re-election in 2008.
