Solemn Protest on Sunday August 12, 2007
Long Beach, CA
St. Luke's is one of the New Sanctuary Movement churches - see the New Sanctuary Movement web site here:
http://www.newsanctuarymovement.org/index.html
New Sanctuary Movement banner - newly displayed at St. Luke's Church
Close up of the banner, above - the sign claims to quote Lev. 19: 34 - below is the actual verse and the three verses that follow Lev. 19:34.
http://www.blueletterbible.org/kjv/Lev/Lev019.html
¶
Lev 19:34 [But] the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I [am] the LORD your God.
Lev 19:35 ¶ Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment, in meteyard, in weight, or in measure.
Lev 19:36 Just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin, shall ye have: I [am] the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt.
Lev 19:37 ¶
Therefore shall ye observe all my statutes, and all my judgments, and do them: I [am] the LORD.
St. Luke's has a FENCE!!!
St. Luke's claims to be for "open borders" and a New Sanctuary Movement church. However, the entire church is fenced, gated, with numerous locks on gates. Above is the typical St. Luke's fence...
Above, St. Luke's side entrance gate - locked shut

RALLY Theme
The majority of St. Luke's parishioners and its leadership could be described as "white liberal" types. It is a small congregation. Most of the church goers were polite. A couple even friendly. We were told by a parishioner that 50 percent of the parishioners do NOT want to harbor an illegal alien at their church.
Church goer's view: Here we are standing outside of the church entrance - on the public sidewalk - greeting church goers with our signs
This rally was to have been a small, solemn rally - with signs aimed at the lawbreaking church leadership. The goal was for us to protest in silence and let our signs speak for us. This is not always easy to do of course.
RALLIERS DEBATE
Some of our ralliers chose to engage in conversation when we were approached by an open border supporter, who arrived on a bicycle. One of our ralliers - in the name of free speech - got into a heated debate.
Since we were doing a "silent" church-focused rally, we asked this rallier to move onto another street - away from the rally - if he was going to have a loud discussion. So the two men moved to another street - away from the rally - and had a very loud exchange of words, which drew the local community from stores and nearby apartments to observe the yelling rallier and yelling open border guy on his bicycle.
LILIANA & HER HUSBAND
Liliana's husband was observed in the church courtyard - watching our rally. If you look in the center window above, he has his back to the camera.
Four open border young people arrived and Liliana briefly joined her husband in the courtyard, above, at the church entrance. The young people held Liliana's two children and Liliana went back inside the church.
ANGRY CHURCH GOER
As Liliana's children were being held, one of the church goers came out from the church courtyard and stood in front of us.
He flashed a petite badge at us and told us to leave. He was a small little fellow. Some of our ralliers had a few words with him. Raymond Herrera asked the man to produce his badge so that he could examine it.
The church goer refused to let Herrera see the badge and returned inside of the church.
YELLING POLICE OFFICER ARRIVES ON SCENE
Shortly thereafter, a police vehicle, with two officers, raced up to the curb! An angry officer jumped out of the vehicle, yelling.
Officer Ebell, at left, was the "yelling" officer
He shouted to us, "A parole officer called and said you spit on him."
We assume the little man who had flashed a badge was the parole officer who had called.
Of course, at no time did anyone even REMOTELY do anything even slightly akin to spitting! But the officer gave us no opportunity to speak.
Officer Ebell
Then as the officer continued to yell, he shouted, "You have to all keep moving. You can't stand still. You can't block the sidewalk. MOVE!" Of course, we were not blocking the sidewalk. But we started to "march" in a small circle as the officer would yell out, "KEEP MOVING."
We had leaned four signs against cars next to where we were standing on the sidewalk. Officer Ebell immediately went to the cars threatening to write tickets When he learned they weren't our cars, he was livid that we had leaned signs against the cars. We moved the signs.
HERRERA CALLS THE WATCH COMMANDER
Our rallier, Raymond Herrera, used his cell phone in order to call the watch commander to report Officer Ebell's actions.
Officer Ebell saw Herrera dialing - took a small gadget out of his pocket - aimed it at the cell phone, and Herrera's cell phone was disabled.
Herrera could not get a dial tone - walked a distance away from the officer - and continued to dial. After four minutes, Herrera's phone began to function again and he got through to the command center.
Herrera said to the watch commander, "You need to get to St. Luke's NOW - an angry officer is about ready to beat up American citizens and we need the watch commander here NOW."
Raymond Herrera had overheard Officer Ebell call for backup and five other police vehicles soon arrived at the church.
A rallier said he thinks the above man also called police
As Herrera was trying to call the watch commander, an open border advocate on a bicycle stopped and began to taunt us - as he had been watching Officer Ebell. Officer Ebell observed this open border guy (heavy Spanish accent) questioning us. At one point, the Liliana crowd - still in the church courtyard - applauded this passerby on a bicycle as he questioned us.
I said to our ralliers, "Don't talk to him. Just don't talk to him."
Officer Ebell yelled at me, "ANSWER HIS QUESTIONS!" trying to get me - to get us - to enter into a verbal exchange with the man now dismounted from his bicycle.
I took our flyer and handed it to the man on the bicycle - and I also tried to hand a flyer to Officer Ebell - since he had ordered us to answer the taunting man's questions, but Ebell would not take a flyer.
THE WATCH COMMANDER ARRIVES!
The watch commander arrived just moments after Herrera spoke to him on the phone.
He arrived in a command vehicle. Very authoritative. Suddenly, Officer Ebell appeared deflated....when he realized his watch commander was on scene.
This is what we looked like when the watch commander arrived.
Herrera spoke with the watch commander and apprised him of the facts.
The watch commander is at far left in the above photo. Officer Ebell is the third individual from the right
The watch commander had a conversation with Ebell. He then spoke with Herrera again and said Ebell was contradicting Herrera's version. The watch commander said since he had not been onsite he could not decide what the facts were. But then he told Herrera he would "make Ebell go away." And would investigate what had happened.
Officer Ebel - with the ralliers watching - was ordered to leave. All of the other officers also left the scene in their vehicles.
The watch commander told us that officers and he would cruise by periodically. We continued the rally for another 45 minutes and ended at the appointed time.

We have contacted the Long Beach Police Department and will be meeting with them and filing an official complaint calling for a complete investigation.
PIT BULL
When we were rallying, we saw a dog under the bushes above, which are in front of the church. The dog appeared sick and listless. We reported it to the church and church leaders called animal services. They discovered the dog was chained to the bush.
The church member who called animal control, told us the homeless sleep in their shrubbery and will use dogs for protection.
The animal control officer got the sick dog out of the bushes.
The dog had a completely limp front left paw. The officer had to pick up the dog since it could not walk and carried it off.
American Homeless dwell in St. Luke's shrubs
The above photo is the cardboard box bed, in St. Luke's shrubbery, where the homeless man who had the pit bull dwells.
Above, is the banner on St. Luke's church
American homeless - who are NOT foreigners - dwell in St. Luke's shrubbery outside the gates of the church - as St. Luke's provides sanctuary, comfort and shelter to an illegal alien inside the walls of the church.
More rallies will be scheduled at St. Luke's as well as meetings with elected officials - details and info to follow in future emails.por las chupacabras todo, fuero de las chupacabras nada

Just to clarify, peaceful American Citizens were harassed by the LBPD for protesting the harboring of an illegal alien and we only have one reply to this outrageous act? Sam did you attend the rally at the church? Please update this thread when you have more info.

Did anyone get pictures of all this? The narrative acts like there are pictures but I don't see links to pictures. There should be pictures of the shubbery and dog also to show the hypocrisy of the whole thing. Sam if you would like a scripture to counter what they write PM me and I'll give you one. This church is disobeying God's Word.

This is my email to Pastor Commins of the church:
Pastor Commins:
I'm a Christian. I'm one who is familiar with God's Word. I recently read an article about your stance on being a sanctuary church for illegal aliens. I know that you quote Leviticus to make your point. However, you are avoiding Romans 13: 1-5 which emphatically states that we are to obey the laws of the land in which we live or are abiding. I've looked at fifteen different translations and all agree along with many commentaries that we are to obey the laws of the land UNLESS it pointedly says to disobey God's law (e.g. murder).
I feel that your position in disobeying Federal law of aiding and abetting someone who has broken our laws and is to be deported is in direct conflict with God's Word and thus you not only disobeying our government's law by God's. Please take this as a very important admonition. God is taking your position very seriouslyJoin our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

How terribly sad that a homeless person and dog did not get the care and attention they needed.
I am sorry the protesters were treated so poorly by the police.

Notice that the Leviticus verse says STRANGER / HIM...
that is, it says "stranger" in the S-I-N-G-U-L-A-R'Tolerance' just means 'Take it!'
It's not about conforming your mind to reality — but conforming reality to your mind (your mind over matter, not matter over you).

Sam-I-Am
Good post. I recall making a similar observation when I saw a NO Trespassing sign at a Catholic Church.
So I guess the illegals can trespass on everyone else's property, just not theirs.

Marxism masquerades as the church in Latin America
One man's terrorist is another man's undocumented worker.
Unless we enforce laws against illegal aliens today,
tomorrow WE may wake up as illegals.
The last word: illegal aliens are ILLEGAL!
